Mattress hit my car..

Some friends and I were driving home from the aristocrat car show today and driving down 69 south and some dumbass in a white nissan exterra had the spring box to a mattress strapped (poorly) to the roof. It flew off and I swerved and it clipped the front bumper causing damage to the bumper. It also hit my frind's ZHP causing similar damage. I was not able to get a license number. Just needed to vent a little.. What should I do?

Sucks big time. Nothing much you can do but fix it. Probably not worth goiing through your insurance though.

You can report it to insurance. At least they will have a record of roadside debris hitting your car, report it and you can deal with fixing it months, years later if you wish. My wife has plenty of damage on her car and I left it as is until I want to pay my deductibles for fixing everything. Don't want to spend non-sense money for now if the car is still functional.

This and make sure you disinguish that it was flying debris and not an object laying in the road. There is a diffrence and determines if its comp or coll and if your insurance rates are subject to increase after you file.

I would claim it. I hit a giant piece of moving mulch a couple months ago. Turned out to be a $1200 expense.

Here are some pics. It was hard to take a picture of the wheel well but it is cracked in half and missing a vent, leaving a big hole. The fog light housing is there but the bulb was knocked out. The bumper is cracked and paint has cracks in it as well.

Haha yeah it was. I give a lot of credit to my bimmer for being so composed while swerving at 75mph on the highway though. I feel that most cars on the road would have hit that thing straight on.

You should call your insurance company to file a claim and call the police to file a report.

Same happened to me in my E46 and the guy stopped after i caught him up and I could vent directly at him.

He offered to get my car polished etc... but instead i told the police officer who happened to be driving past just at the right time

I decided to fix it myself. Just got my wheel well in the other day. I took the old wheel well out only to find all the mounts that connect it to the bumper were ripped off upon impact. Here are some pics of whats left of the old one and a pic of the new one.
