n55--twin turbo

Why do so many people who have a N55 refer to their cars as twin turbo? imho BMW should correct this situation and say single turbo. If they really want to get technical also list fake dual exhaust in the brochure.

It is TwinPower turbo, It is not single turbo since it has TWO in there working as one. SO based on your reasoning either way would be wrong.

twin scroll ( troll )

You have to be very careful as for reading and getting the info right.
TWIN SCROLL does not mean twin turbo.
Yes there are a lot of people that misread the info and then, well.... here we go. You have a perfect example above " two like one, so technically .... "

relax and don't get it personally,
I get the same questions " so your car is a twin turbo ?
Ja naturlich it is a twin blah blah N55

Where exactly are these kinds of "people" John?

Of course everyone knows that it's a twin power turbo, meaning a twin scrolling single turbo, meaning we're slow as shit and get no respect compared to the N54 guys, meaning we actually suck (or blow) less, meaning I am just fine when you put it in those terms

Certainly I have not seen any of them on this forum- with the exception of this thread- and even those folks I think are busting balls... at least in my heart I certainly hope they are.

I think this confusion comes from the fact that BMW moved from the N54 to the N55 without changing the consumer branding. If they had changed the name to 335ix2 or something that indicated the engine was different, then all would be clear. Also, it does not help that upon that the causal reader will not catch the subtle difference of the BMW marketing lingo.

Based on what is commonly believed that the N54 is a superior and more expensive engine, it is not surprising that BMW is happy to allow this confusion to persist. Personally, I have found BMW to be the least scrupulous car company out of all the ones I have dealt with. I recognize that the bar is pretty low for all car companies, but someone has to be at the bottom and in my book it is BMW.

Ever notice how everything on this forum is so controversial? You could say leasing s****, and suddenly all these people will come forward and prove that leasing is the only way to go. imho it has to do with the inverse correlation of age and taking things personally.

I was at a happy hour on Friday, and a coworker came up to me and said you drive that 335 coupe with a stick, right? The he said I got a new X3 twin turbo. A lightbulb went on in my head, another coworker got a F30 328i, and he also told me why don't you take it for a spin, it's got a 4 cyl. twin turbo.

You bet BMW is glad to have these folks refer to their cars like that. Price out a factory exhaust for an N55 v. N54, it costs literally less than 1/2. One less turbo, 3 less cats, increase the price, and there is a fairly large margin to be gained.

It's just an observation--funny how people suddenly feel it's an attack on the 0-60 times of their car!

I remember back in the day, people who actually drive a Camry, would spell it Camary. Seriously. Now I notice a lot of people refer to their BMW single turbo, as a twin turbo.

who cares what people think? let these morons believe what they want. It's their fault for not knowing anything about their own car.

The age delta / personally taking things is right on. This forum is skewed to the young and the Audi forum that I participate on is much more middle aged. The tone is drastically different. Both are fun, but I have to ignore a lot of the noise here.

The young somehow seem to delude themselves into thinking that they played an integral roll in creating their chosen car and it is somehow the pinnacle of human engineering. They maintain this delusion while at the same time itching to change this and that to make it even better. They fail to realize that the act of changing something out, in fact is saying that the first thing was somehow inferior to the new thing, which contradicts the primary delusion.

Don't get me wrong, modding cars is fun, but it all needs to be kept in perspective.
