Loaner car
Wow that's all I have to say. I have a 2010 328i Xdrive that I brought in to get the tail lights replaced (thanks BMW). They gave me a 2013 328i wow this car is way faster in pickup and handling. I can only imagine what a 335 or m3 is like. BMW keeps getting better I guess.

no doubt. difference is night and day.
used ones are coming down in price -- go for a 2012 -- good deals if you are a little bit patient

I test drove a 2013 328 with the N20 and yeah it was faster than the current E90 I owned but I didn't like it at all. It felt weird and I hated the engine sound.

The F30 328i just doesn't feel like a BMW, it is so quiet and isolated from everything. And I know people rave about the 8 speed auto and I can see why as it shifts very smoothly. But man does it shift often - was kind of annoying. To me these new models feel like very nice cars, just not great cars like the earlier 3 series models. It will be interesting if BMW reverses course a little and gets back to their hedgehog, kind of like how they reversed the Chris Bangle direction.

I was in those shoes! For what I paid for the 2011 335 MSport loaded I good have bought a new F30 328i sport line with a few options. Most people would buy the new car. I looked at what a similarly equipped F30 335 would cost new, what the E90s price was new, and as usual settled for the better equipped used car with an extended warranty. Driving experience had something to do with it too ;-) I've driven almost every configuration of the F30 and not been in love with any of them. Perhaps the LCI update will address some of the complaints in the numb driving response area. After all, it's electronics that are to blame for all this refined mushiness, and that's an area they can keep developing and provide software updates as frequently as they want. No doubt that N20 blows your socks of because you aren't expecting such free revving shunt. Spend a couple of days with it though and you start to identify its flaws - rattly idle, gravelly cabin noise, steplike throttle response, mushy suspension, lifeless steering feedback etc.

Of course, I do love when I *have* to bring my car in for service and borrow a manual for a day or two.

I had a 2013 328 and I didn't like it. I don't like the engine cutting off when stopped at a light and then restarting when I press on the accelerator.

no one likes the auto-start-stop feature even bmw engineers gave it the acronym ASS. Fortunately the dealers are offering to code it out for free (it will remember your last setting, so you only have to turn it off once!). But they can't code in better steering feel, better braking feel and better interior material craftsmenship.

The 328 accelerates noticeably faster than the E90 328i. I don't believe that's so for the 335 because, unlike the 328i, it's the same motor, essentially, as the E90 335i's.

I just dropped my N54 E92 335i cobb tuned/RennArt exhaust at the dealer and I have a new 2013 328i.
I can't wait to get back into my car. This new F30 328i car feels no where near as fast as mine. The sound of the engine compared to N54 inline twin turbo with custom catback exhaust in my 335i sucks. Even compared to stock N54 335i the new 4 cylinder turbo sounds crude and rough the soundtrack needs huge improvement. The steering wheel is super numb and the car just does not feel as much fun to drive. Some of the interior parts feel a bit cheap. The start stop is not seamless and sort of annoying in its engagement/disengagement. Only good thing is the 8-speed transmission and fuel economy. Anyways can't wait to get my car back. I am just not liking these numb F30 cars. Quote:

steering feedback = fail
I have not driven the manual f30 and perhaps this would make me like the car more but aside from the acceleration and fuel consumption I prefer my e91.

I've had this loaner f30 for three days now and can't wait to take it back. Feels mushy and large. Its the base model with no frills of course. I'm not impressed but I do think the fuel economy is nice. Keeping the E90 335i.

I have 2013 328i xDrive loaner and I'll say the engine noise is weird, the steering is fine...
Otherwise it is pretty good. It feels very comfortable. I think may be even more than mine. I can't comment on the nav since it doesn't have it, it just has iDrive. I don't see why get an iDrive, there is really nothing useful that it displays.. |
