I HATE turning the car on with AC already on; am i weird?

So I have this weird thing about cars (preferably my own). Any time im about to pull up to shut the car off about 30-45seconds before shut off, I turn off the AC & then the fan all the way. Every time. I HATE turning the car on with the AC already on I feel like the motor hates me , like its getting dragged on real bad....

Am I just anal & weird? or does turning ac off & never having ac on while starting car is better

Everything is electronically controlled. The AC compressor won't engage until after the car has started, so it makes zero difference.

This. And it is a variable displacement compressor anyway, so it doesn't even really cycle on and off. Even my '84 Jetta GLI had a delay before the A/C would engage after starting.

So yes, OP, you are weird!

So...what is your question? I thought you were worried about it putting stress on the starter motor. So what if it kicks on immediately after starting? AFTER starting...the starter's work is done....

lol ok maybe you guys aren't getting what I mean. Yes I know the AC is kicked on AFTER THE ENGINE HAS STARTED, I feel like when the engine is cold and it has extra lag on the motor its mad at me....... I know it doesn't start with the motor start. 2-3seconds afterwards....

The motor is designed to pull the car. A little dinky AC compressor is nothing. By your logic you should be feeling bad for driving your car at all.

The sound

I don't like how it sounds either but that's the sound you will hear regardless when you turn your ac on and are at idle cause the big engine / ac condenser FAn is running . So the answer is yes it does make your engine work harder more parts are running and need power equals more gas but that's what it's made for I auto start my car and its cool when I get in oh yes .

Same with headlights. I can't stand starting a car with the headlights already on. However most have circuitry which shuts them off while the starter is engaged. I still turn everything off before killing the engine, then wait until after it's running again to turn anything back on. A little bit OCD probably.

Don't worry, I feel you. I don't like putting extra stress on the car when it starts up.

Don't worry man

For years I've been a little OCD about always making sure the ac was off before I turned the engine off.... AND get this. I also never leave the wipers on

I thought i was alone in this lol!!!

I reprogrammed my AC on in auto to stay off.

I reprogrammed my AC on in auto to stay off.
It only turns on when I press the AC button now
This is easily done with a coding setup.
I only need AC about 2 weeks a year if that though.

I do it too. I Always turn my ac off before turning the car off...it's just one of those things that I remember my dad telling me when I was a little kid. For some reason it just stuck with me and I still do it, even if there is no benefit.

For me, AC is a don't care.
However, the wipers I definitely do, because of the weak-sauce BMW system of leaving the wipers wherever the hell they are the instant you shut the car off (i.e. half-way up the windshield).
Lights I care very much about. Xenons have a life measured by the number of times you light them on. So...when I start my car in my dark garage, in AUTO mode the lights turn on, until I pull out into the driveway. Every single time. This is bad.
