2009 335i car clicks but will not turnover help!!!
hello i was wondering if you guys can help a fellow member out... just got the car less than a month... well this morning i took my car to a frends house and the car started with no hesitation then as i got there and turned off the car for literally 5 min, the car will just not turn over... everything works perfectly except i just hear a click when pressing on the brakes and pushing the start button.. i have tried every method from messing with the steering wheel and and putting pressure on the brakes... even took the battery to autozone for them to recharge it hoping that was the case... but its not... also got a check engine code that says generator communication and my screen would say "ignition is on" in the nav screen... could it be the alternator or starter???? anyone experience this before? sorry for the long write up but the car is only 36k miles... this is so frustrating coming from an expensive car....

Those are definitely the symptoms of a dead battery. Have you tried jump starting the car with the battery in place? If your battery is no longer holding a charge properly, then recharging it outside the vehicle and then re-installing and starting would not work.

Sounds like the starter. Try banging on it, then see if it starts.

Sounds to me like the starter is bad. You'll have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Might as well do the valve cleaning while you have the manifold off.

On my old car I had my starter go bad at 20k miles. POS Nissan. Sounds like its either the starter or the battery. Remember that with these cars the battery is responsible for a lot of functions other than just starting the car. A 2009 with only 36k miles should have some warranty left, or a CPO if thats your case.

Start shopping around for a new starter and happy reading... Only at 36k miles? it sucks!! Good luck and keep us posted.

did they test the battery or just charge it? The battery has multiple cells, so if 3 out of the 4 cells are dead it will still hold a charge but will die rapidly. I would have the battery tested and dont forget to have any new or replacement battery coded to your vehicle or else you will destroy a brand new one.

If you replaced the battery and it happens again, then it could be a bad spot in the starter if it's intermittent, or the alternator if it stops starting at all (dead battery due to alternator failure).
