Average MPG stuck on 19.7
usually my average MPG updates every few hours, since i got the car from service its "stuck" at 19.7, even after a couple of weeks of relaxed driving, is there a way to reset this myself somehow? Tried changing units with no success....

Using the button on the end of the left hand stalk (the one you press to scroll through different settings, i.e - range, mpg etc.)
Hold that button down for about 5 seconds and it will reset to -:-- I always reset my MPG gauge everytime i fill up with a full tank of fuel as it gives a much more accurate/up to date reading. Adi. |

Basically it works out your MPG over an X amount of time (since you last reset it). So it wont really change unless you seriously change your driving style.
But if you reset it everytime you fill up you will get a much more up to date/accurate reading. Instead of your average MPG over the last 5-10 months per-say. |

What he said. The more miles introduced into the ratio, the smaller the difference would be. If it calculated to a further decimal than you would see more of a change. |

Yes, mine stays stuck at 21.5. It once went up to 21.7 after a long trip. I never reset it. I always reset my trip odometer. Don't know why, just a habit.

What would make you think it actually resets every few hours? Just because the number changes? It wouldn't be the average fuel economy then.

OP, make it a habit on resetting your mpg gauge every time you fill up your gas tank. Use Fuelly if you want to keep track of your mpg averages.

Except I've noticed that the MPG the car gives is overstated about 5-10% than if I were to calculate it by hand (miles driven/gallons filled). No biggie, but just pointing it out there.

Reset both the tripmeter and mpg's at fill.

Yes the actual miles per gallon run a little higher if you divide miles driven by the number of gallons. Maybe 1 to 1.5 mpgs more. |

I think the highest average I have ever gotten driving around town was 22 or 23 mpg. I usually get anywhere from 18.6-19.8 mpg. I just reset mine every time I fill the car up. The more you have driven the less it changes.

hmmm, u guys must drive with a heavy foot. I for sure don't drive around like a granny and I can always get anything from 20-23mpg depending on how much city driving i am doing. (usually do 10% highway, 90% city) sometimes varies.

Doesn't the mpg vary with the motor as well? I have 6k on a 2012 335is and get just about 22. Won't the 2.8 do better and the 3.0 NA something different. When I look at the wild mpg claims should hey not be linked to engine type and city/highway?
I get better mileage on the highway in cruise control. Almost 24 with the car |
