AC not blowing cold air

Hey all,

Just bought a CPO 10 335i with low miles, on the way home I noticed the temp knob set to 60 degrees the car was not blowing cold air at all. The switch is flipped to the blue side and the snowflake is lit up. Sadly its not blowing any cold air at all.

Anyone know what this might be? I would hate to go back to the dealer to get this looked at as they are 30 min away . I also did not get a manual smh.

The car had been sitting on the lot for 4 months, hopefully its a simple issue.

When I had this problem, I popped the hood and saw the compressor clutch was broken. (separated from the pulley). This happened to both of my cars, E90 and E92. E90 had 99k miles and E92 barely 51k miles.

This happened to my E90 at 57K kms and brought it in for a $20 freon refill. It's been okay since. I may have just been lucky that there weren't any leaks or damages to major ac components.

If I'm not mistaken, it falls under consumables and not covered. Keeping my fingers crossed that you just need a freon charge. If a major component is busted, it's the price we pay for the car we choose.

I had A/C problems with my '09 this time last year. I bought CPO in Nov. of 2011 and never tried the air until the weather turned last spring/summer. Same symptoms as you. Right to the dealership, full re-charge. Covered under the 4/50k. Seven weeks later, hot air. Back to the dealer. Another re-charge and full dye test to look for leaks. They brought me back two weeks later to check it out. No leaks found. Fully covered. I'm still good so who knows what that was about. Bring it in!

probably just needs a evac and recharge. Evaporators are know to leak on these (or at least on the e8x platform). I think mine is, can't bring my self to pay to have it replaced (huge pain in the arse to get to).

This morning the AC seemed to be working very weak at 60 degrees after 2-3 hours of driving it started blowing warm air.Hopefully it is a recharge I will get it checked out this week. Will keep you guys updated.

I don't want to create a new thread but does the ipod touch 3G work with the bmw usb port? I am using the white cable and its not detecting anything the ipod says device charge not supported or something. This same ipod and cable worked with a 328 LCI, no idea what could be wrong.

Hopefully it's not the condenser. Had mine go out on my '09 e90 and it was going to be $3k to fix. I was also worried because they would have had to take the entire dash apart to do the replacement. Fingers crossed that its a simple fix. Good luck.

I think youre referring to the evaporator. Thats under the dash and $3-4k. The condenser is in front of the radiator and pretty easy to fix. Mine got taken out by my oil cooler and i just replaced it myself. Took a few hours and the part is cheap.

My A/C is also not blowing cold air. I had it checked at an indy and they said that my compressor just wasn't turning on and freon levels seemed to be fine. I bought one on ebay off a car with 30k miles for like $275 and it's getting installed later this week when it comes. If that fixes it for me i'll let you know although i'm sure you'll have it figured out by then

Got my car back...the AC was not charged they charged it and refilled it with dye. They also replace my brakes/rotors and a wheel because I had some noises/vibration. Unfortunately they wanted to charge me $20 for "gas' ($6.00 a gallon LOL) and $10 for some BS inspection so I do not suggest Port Chester BMW for service. Luckily the dealership covered the $30 bs.

BTW the stupid service light is still on. I didn't realize until I got home. Red car on lift.....says service 12/12 date, how can I reset this myself?

Don't think the evaporator costs that much. It is a bunch of labor, I think like 8 or 10 hours, but the part is only couple hundred.
