E90 325xi won't start

It won't crank, won't even try, key goes in, push start and it goes into position 1 (where the radio works and brake light is on, airbag light on clock is on) and that's it. Cannot get it to position 2 (HVAC, check engine light, gauges etc) will not work. Press start button it just cycles from off to position 1. Step on brake it will not try to crank (cause it needs position 2 first) will not send signal to turn on fuel pump, will not enable headlights to turn on. Tried both keys it recognizes both keys fine but will not enable position 2. Battery is kinda old but has 11.9 volts at battery and under hood and the "eye" is green. Tried jumping under hold and no change. This happened a few weeks ago and after a few hours car just started. But now it won't.

I can't think of anything other than disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting it, hoping it resets itself.

Tried that. Can't even turn the wheel to push it out of the way. I lifted up the shift boot to get it out of park and tried starting in neutral that didn't work.

Is your column lock disengaging? Do you here it or do you here nothing when you press the key in? If it is not then there are 2 fixes: 1) Charge your battery. OR 2) Fix the column lock http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=Column+lock

Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

It's engaging and disengaging. When the key is in "position 1" the key wont come out, press the key in and it disengages normally.

You need a new battery. 11.9 v means it is spent.

Take the battery to autozone/advanced auto to get it tested. A cell might be bad. You need to get one of these http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ter-69888.html

The car is seven or possibly eight years old. You have a bad battery. Take a look at the DIY and remove it or see if the health indicator on battery is black. You just need to replace the battery. You need > 14 v for it to crank.
