anyone trade 335i for an e60 M5?
Comparison would be great? maybe its here but I did not find it.
how is the ride difference? smoother, funner, more comfy? any input would be great. other then that. if you haven't .....would you? and I know anyone would if money was not a concern. but money is a concern as well as 8 mph in the M5 and stopping at the station twice a week. so would you still do it? explanations on answers would be nice too.

I had a chance to take an M5 for a couple laps on a very short track on its stiffest settings, with the SMG in a crisper mode and in P500 mode. It was much firmer and more solid feeling than the 335. Since it was a short small track, staying in 2nd most of the time except a brief moment into 3rd, I was not able to experience a full acceleration to redline but it was very quick and nimble, but heavier feeling than the 335.
If money were not a consideration, insurance, gas et al, then yes I would like an M5.

Nope. I prefer a small car.
If I have money, I'll save it

I did the opposite...sold my E60 M5 and bought a 335. The M5 has a great engine but I just never warmed up to the looks and still just don't care for SMG equipped cars. It had a little more room than the 335 which was nice but it just wasn't for me.

Honestly...no offense to all BMWphiles (myself included), if you want a mode of trasport that is fast nimble and handles like a balerina on ice, you have to go with the professional. In that price range, it would have to be a porsche.
I recall a couple of years ago, i beleive it was an issue of Top Gear magazine, where they compared a 911 to an e46 M3. Though the M3 was brilliant, the premise of that argument was, why dont you start with a sports car instead of trying to convert a regular car into one. That being said, speed, grace and poise come by shedding all that wieght and having a smooth aerodynamic body with a very low center of gravity. Gravity and the laws of physics dictate that and there is nothing we can do about it. Hence an M5 will NEVER be better than a 911...its a brilliant car and i wont take anything away from it... but if you want a fast sports car ... start with one!!!

Sadly no cars like that exist in the 3 series price range. Four seat sports cars that is. In fact, is the 911 not the only 2+2 purpose built sports car available at all, at least in the US? I think every other 4 seat performance car out there is based on a more pedestrian "family sedan" chassis.

First off, I don't know many people where money truly isn't a concern. Just because you can afford to drive a $85K car doesn't mean it's a good idea to spend that much on a vehicle. But if you're comfortable dropping that kind of money, then...
...I agree with this. If I were going to spend M5 money on a car, I'd rather have a Porsche, and then just drive something else as my daily if I needed the extra space from time to time.
