battery dead?

I went on a two week trip and when I came back, my car wouldn't start. Jump started the car it was fine until it triggered a code for transmission malfunction. I hope it was just related to the battery. Wasn't able to restart the car again since the battery wasn't charged up enough. Will try again when I go home tonight.

Is it normal for the battery to be discharged so quickly, in just 2 weeks? I have driven many cars that has not been started in 2 to 4 weeks without any issues.

Thanks,
Baron

Hmm..that's interesting. Usually batteries don't go dead after a 2-week sitting, but I guess sometimes you might get a defective batt.

All my previous cars never had this issue and I traveled and deployed alot back in the days too, anywhere from 3 days to 6 weeks and every time I came home and the car started!

Keep us posted on that battery thing...hopefully you get some good explanation from the dealership.

I found this from an older tread:

Thanks for everyone's reply. Sounds like it is everyone’s the consensus to have the dealer recharge the battery is good enough. Although I was at the dealership already when I read all your messages, that is exactly what I asked. They spent a good 2 hours recharging it.

"2) When the battery is drained, you'll get two error messages from the car due to low voltage: Steering wheel lock and transmission malfunction."

Hopefully the error message will go away after the battery is fully charged. Probably want to avoid taking my car to the dealer since I have the procede.

Lets say if the battery was discharged, how much driving does it take to bring it up to full charge?

Thanks,
Baron

I think the batteries they put in these things are lacking in quality. I always hear my alternator whine even with accessories off. My other vehicles it only whines when I have the stereo, lights, ac, etc going at the same time.

And according to the owner's manual, they say the battery's supposed to last a lifetime...
