E90 and Twins?
Picked up our E90 335i just over a month ago and found out today the wife is pregnant with twins. I have tried searching, but I am wondering if an infant seat will fit behind the drivers seat without having to move the seat up much. I'm 6'1.
Thanks for any help and pics of a infant seat behind the drivers seat would help, Tim P.S. Twins is a happy thing. We were trying for a long time and did an IVF cycle. |

Rear-facing infant seats, I've heard, don't fit too well, but don't take my word for it. Wait 10 months, and see if they fit. No big deal.
Congratulations! |

Congrats! Our daughter is eight weeks old and it's a blast so far.
There is plenty of room in the back seat for baby seats. We have ours behind the passenger seat, but that seat is typically quite far back, so a driver's seat adjusted for a 6' 1" driver should be no problem. For us the challenge is more the trunk space, and the narrow opening to the trunk. We purchased a Bugaboo Chameleon stroller, which is great but once we've squeezed it into the trunk there's barely room for anything else.

I have a rear-facing baby seat behind the driver's seat. It's the usual - base that you clip in the seat. I have to move my seat up about an inch from where I like it for it to fit. I have my seat memory settings such that 1 = normal, 2 = when I put in the baby seat.
I am 6'1" also, and I think I normally sit a little closer to the steering wheel compared to most people. So depending on your taste, you may find it uncomfortable, but I serious doubt it. I hardly notice the difference and half the time, I forget to press 1 to go back to normal, since 2 is so nearly the same. I also have a front-facing toddler seat behind the passenger seat. I have to move the passenger seat WAY up to get it to where my son's feet aren't against the back of it. The E90 back seat isn't the greatest for child seats, but it's better than a lot of compact sedans. Two rear-facing car seats will be no problem. When they get old enough to have front-facing seats, you'll find it pretty tight and I think you'll get a lot of shoe prints on your seat backs. If your second car isn't a minivan, think about getting one. They're great for kids.

CONGRATS on the Twins!! I have a 3 year old with a convertible and the forward facing seats should not be a problem when you get to that age/point either. Mine fits fine and my back seat is smaller than the E90. Congrats again!

We've got a booster and a front facing convertible seat in our E90. There is enough room, but just barely. I'm 5'11", but we also have a 6MT, so the seats are a little further forward than what I'd have for an Auto.
Here are some pics, but they don't quite show the space. These were taken because another member was wondering how much space is between the car seats: Anyway, they are only rear facing for 12 to 13 months anyway. At least, that is when we switched ours over to forward facing (their legs got too long to keep them rear-facing.) But, we also have a 7 passenger Durango for the "big hauling." I think I'd go crazy if the E90 was our "everyday car" for hauling the kids around. I think even a 5 series would be bothersome in that role.....

It's gonna be snug. I'm 6-1, and the infant seat isn't going behind me. It's doable, but a little snug. Congrats on the twins!
The rear-facing only lasts a year. The front facing fit great.

Thanks for all the replys. Wife is only 5'1 and she drives the e90 most of the time. I have a Quad Cab Dodge Ram, so on long trips and outtings we will use the truck. Just wanted to see if the rear-facing seats would fit for short trips when I drive (or ride).
And yes, the WIFE, is trying to talk me into trading the truck for an x5. We'll see... |

I have twins (1.5 yrs old now). We rarely ever drive my car with them. We always take my wife's Lexus RX300 SUV. I drove an Audi A4 and recently (2 months ago) switched to an E93. The Audi fit everything fine and is about the same as an E90. I'm sure you'll do alright. I would however look into getting the Recaro baby seats when they get old enough. Infant seats should work fine in the meantime (we had the Peg Perego seats.) The E93, btw, is impossible with the Britax convertible seats. They're just too huge.

Well, if X5 is a possibility, change my vote from minivan to X5.

Have to say that when I read your title I was thinking this was going to be a BMW story for Penthouse. Good luck with your babies!

If you're already thinking about the X5 I say save a few bucks and op for the X3 with Sport Package...my girl has that and it's great.

I use a rear facing seat as well, plus a forward booster chair (2 yr old and 2 month old) On the infant seat, I actually do not use the base. I just secure tightly with the safety belts and latches. That seems to work great. The seat is always level, and the contours of the back seat holds it securely. Plus, it does allow for better fitment and space behind the front seats.
