tree sap..

i think i have a layer of tree sap that i can't seem to get off my windshield. Any help would be great.. windex or any other window cleaner seems useless. It really cleans the windshield, but it still looks like there are greasey spots on the window.

If the sap is on your glass, use some quick detailer and a straight razor. Work the sap at a low angle, should come off pretty effortlessly.

i don't know if it's sap for sure, i can't feel it when i rub my hands against the windshield.. it's like there's a layer of grease.. i only noticed it after i parked under a tree a few days back, so i assumed it's sap.

You will thank me later. Go to walmart and get yourself a bottle of rainX. Yes, it is for keeping water off the windshield but it has some sort of chemical that also do a very good job of removing all sort of things on glass surfaces. Don't be cheap either, use alot during your application. I recommend you wash your glasses with car wash first before applying rainX. GL.

Oh, and how did the blue painter tape suggestion works on your felt weather strip around the door?

Sounds like you have oil, or some wax product on your windshield, not sap. One neat trick for removing silicon oils is to take a cotton cloth and soak it in Coke or Pepsi, then wipe the window down. Follow up with a paper towel.

The phosphoric acid in the soda should clean it up.

yeah right then the rest of the window becomes sticky...i dunno if i would use that solution...thats the first i heard of it...but who knows maybe it would work, but i definately would not use it because of the syrup in the soda thats for sure...Razor method will take car of it with some windex..

If it's hard sap, then I'd go with the razor too...his description makes it sound like oil/grease, in which case a razor will do absolutely nothing. Windex will just smear it around too if it's a silicon oil (used in many car products and waxes).

The soda trick has been around a long time and usually works well. If you use a cloth to apply it, it won't hurt anything...I'm not saying to pour it all over his car and leave it like that

Acetone takes it right off... instantly... with barely any effort... BUT DON'T USE ON PAINTED SURFACES... only on the glass!!!!

Good luck!

windex doesnt do shit

get an soft rag

sap-dissolving solution

Pour a bit of your sap-dissolving solution onto the rag. Hold it against the sap for a moment, then dab and rub gently, turning the rag as you go to wipe the sap off.

Wash and wax your car as usual.

try Rain-X Bug Remover Windshield Washer Fluid
