glovebox flashlight?

Could someone with the later (non-rechargeable LED) flashlight in the glovebox of their car please measure it for me, or at least someone with the holder measure that? Reason I ask is I'm buying a couple new flashlights for home use and thought that it would be nice to get a decent light for the glvoebox of my E92. Right now there's a 2C Task Force (Lowe's) LED light in there but it takes up a lot of space.

I assume that the light that goes in there is the "small" size one yes?

http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp?HC1=...p&hdept_id=257

I posted a vendor link on CPF and someone identified it as a relabeled Inova X1.

http://www.niteize.com/product/INOVA-X1.asp
55 lumens
Dimensions (Length): 4.00" (10.16 cm) | (Diameter): 0.72” x (1.83 cm)
about $20 on Amazon

So if that is correct then a Fenix E11 should fit the clip and provide a lot more light - almost as much as my TF but in a smaller package

http://www.fenix-store.com/fenix-e11-silver/
115 lumens
97mm (Length) x 19mm (Diameter)
$27.95 from fenix-store

just looking for someone to verify the size of the holder. Reason I can't do it is my car has been @ Tischer since Thursday (and yes, I'm going through withdrawal... can't get used to the steering on the Cruze loaner) which was before I had the idea to investigate and see if there were any affordable high performance flashlights that would fit the factory holder.

I know this is somewhat OCD but still... there's guys out there that geek out on flashlights and bless their little hearts they identified the factory one from a picture in something like 3 hours. And thanks to that I've been able to find a "better" light in the same format for less than the $40 that BMW wants for theirs... seems like a no brainer?

Oh, yeah, and I think I'm going to order a TK41 for around the house use/live in handgun case - that's only 800 or so lumens

Thanks!

I tried to get one for my wife's car, she bought it used, a few years back. They've been discontinued. It's 15 mm diameter and 9.5 cm long including the button. 63 31 9148677-02 is stamped inside....

thanks for that, I couldn't tell from realoem what the right flashlight was

searching based on the p/n you posted I managed to find this

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8529663

which confirms that a) the flashlight being sold now is in fact an Inova flashlight with "BMW" silkscreened on the side and b) it *won't* fit in the holder.

Apparently the flashlight that fits is a LED Lenser P2 which pretty much sucks as a flashlight

http://www.ledlenser.com/flashlight/keychain-size/p2bm

(newer version)

So based on the info you posted now I'm looking for a flashlight with a 14/15mm body diameter not 19mm... thanks for the helpful info.

Edit: Fenix LD-01?

Incandescent? Really?

I do appreciate massive overkill, but honestly, I'm just looking for a real usable light that will fit the clips in the glovebox so I can get rid of the big clunky thing in there and free up some space...

$200 dollars for a flash light? That's ridiculous

To replace the original glovebox light that disappeared, I got a small LED flashlight (Fenix E01) at REI that fits in the clips. It's 70mm x 12mm.

It's not a flashlight, it's more like a handheld search light You could definitely hurt people by shining it in their eyes... I'm guessing the head gets blazing hot after a few seconds of use as well.

For reference, a 3D LED maglite or one of the 2C 3W Cree Task Force lights (the one I am carrying in my glovebox now) puts out about 150 lumens or so. So that light he posted the link to puts out about 25x the light as a good quality "normal" flashlight.

Now the question is, do you need a light that bright? (probably not) Does it make you giggle enough to be worth the money? (maybe) Is the dollars per lumen a better deal than the factory $20 light that puts out a piddly 13 lumens? (definitely - hence my starting this thread)

So the E01 fits in the clips OK?

Per Fenix-Store.com

E01:
$14.95
10 lumens
7.1cm (Length) x 1.4cm (Diameter)

LD01:
72 lumens
76.2mm(Length) x14mm(Diameter)
$34.95

So it appears that if the E01 fits well than so will the LD01

thank you very much for the helpful reply! give me a thumbs up and I think I'm going to go ahead and order the LD01.

Resolution: the Fenix LD01 fits, actually a little loosely. Why settle for 13 lumens when you can have a real flashlight!

Only caveat - you have to be careful putting it in the holder because of the twist-the-head-to-turn on switch. Other than that it's splendid. Picked one up @ REI this morning.

Downside - I also "had" to pick up an E11 for my pocket, but I didn't actually have a pocket flashlight.

Couldn't you just store a regular torch in the trunk?

Also, do you have the charging receptacle in your glovebox? (The inboard side of the glovebox)

I could, but I'm a packrat so I'm making a concerted effort to keep the essentials as compact and neat as possible. And no, I don't have the charging receptacle; that was discontinued before my car was built. If my car *had* a "real BMW" flashlight it would have been a LED flashlight with a regular alkaline battery in it (the relabeled LED Lenser I mentioned above) which has apparently become NLA.

The one that I bought was $30-something from REI, and waaaay brighter than the BMW flashlight, if you care about such things.

Really......I'd like to get one of those. I have replaced my bulb with a LED bulb, but it's only one bulb and its not all that bright.

Which models were originally equipped with the flashlight? I did not see one, nor a place for one on my '07 e90.
