Dual Stage Brake lights

Does any one have a pic of the dual stage brake lights working?

I wanna see "how much the driver behind would intuitively know what's happening"

:-)

The brake light is just divided into 2 sections

Whit heavy braking both sections turn on, so you got a big red light
With normal braking only the outer section tuns on, and you have a normal size red light

Other drivers wont really know there is anything different, they will just see more red light

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to just have more red light always then? Then drives behind would always see it, would always have this intuition to brake harder and then i wouldn't be here asking stupid questions?

I think it has to do with regulations for normal brake lights and the amount of light they give off, and according to the USA manual it also engages the rear foglight bulb

Are you really asking?

Then if it would always have the big bright lights on, you´d always asume the car in front of you is braking normally since you´d seen it light up bright so many times before.

Hence you´d be back to normal braking lights, just bright ones.

Just like the boy that called "Wulf" once to often...

are these standard on all e90's? how can i test it? can i park up against a window and lightly press the brake, and then press it hard and see the difference or is it related to speed?

Yes, it´s standard on all markets where the authorities allow it. (Otherwise it´s diabled via Software). Late E46 had it as well.

Have someone drive behind you AT DISTANCE and brake normally. Then go back to spped and brake hard.

Then he should be able to tell you.

Here is a picture of it in the "hard breaking stage"
I think in the normal breaking stage only the outer one lights up...
