got my my first red light racer
i have a 335xi, i've had it now for three weeks... last night i was driving home from studying and i got my first experience of someone trying to race me... funny thing is was that it was a previous gen 330...
anyways, my 335 is a mt and this is my first mt car... (i practiced on my gf's eclipse before i got this one but since it has a higher catch point i stalled a lot but not since the third day) anyways, my take-offs are pretty slow so i didnt race this guy, plus he might have had an automatic anyway... but it was fun even though i didnt do anyting... he did it for the next three lights and kept looking over at me but i just smiled and did my normal thing... |

he was either a complete idiot or was packing some serious mods, I'm guessing he was an idiot. Good call not street racing, almost more humiliating to just laugh at somebody and cruise along than actually burn them.

My vote is complete idiot. Not because he was trying to street race the almighty 335i, but because he was street racing, period.

He might have just been trying to get you to open the car up. Sometimes people just want to see the car in its element. Then again, he could have been a cocky idiot trying to fluff up his stoplight penis too.

Yeah, but on the flip side if somebody is that big of an idiot to mess with a 335 when they have a Z06 on public roads is a moron in my book anyways. I'd still laugh at them. Oh well, not hating on street racing, I've done it, just funny how dumb some people are. I have civics and the like that try to race me all the time, and who knows, maybe they are packing some serious punch. Still funny to laugh at them and make them feel like an idiot than taking their bait and racing. Just my thoughts. |

You never have anything to gain by racing an underdog.
If you race a slower car and lose, it’s embarrassing. If you race a slower car and win by anything other than a large margin, it embarrassing However if you race a Z06 and lose by a small margin, you da man! |

no point really
there really is no point, but i just wanted to say that this car is a magnet for people trying to race... i'm sure there are plenty of threads out there saying the same thing.. sorry if i wasted ur time... (not being sarcastic)
and i never had a mt before because all i got were hand me down cars, maxima, accord, 4runner always after they had like 120k miles on them.. so this is my first brand new car and i got a mt... actually because my gf talked me into it... i wasnt too keen on practicing my first mt in a bmw |

Well, personally, I sometimes do this just for fun and to feel how my engine and whole car works in full force :-) Like this morning, I was playing on my daily-commuter WRX with M3 ~2005. I was not trying to win, I just wanted to have some fun together with some good opponent's car :-) And fun it was! P.S. Actually, considering the specs of that M3 and the fact, that my WRX is slightly tuned, it was a fair race with me having a good chance of winning :-) |

I think it's awesome that...
1. Your GF drives stick. 2. You converted and are happy. IMHO, the best thing to do when other guys want to be stupid and street race is look at them, chuckle visibly, then look back to the road and shake your head. It's like saying, "You? In that? Yeah, right. Whatever."

yea she's a bad ass
and as i am sure many of you do, i love driving stick now... it feels like i have more control... although i dont feel the clutch engagement as well as i did on her car.. but i dont want to do the cdv mod so i'll just get used to it...
now i go out randomly driving or taking the long way home... i love this car if you cant tell (just not more than the girl) but i dont think i will ever really race anyone... passing slow people on cruise control at 65mph on the highway is good enough for me... |

Which do you prefer?
You have access to an E46 M3 and a 335i, both with 6MT and you say the 335i is faster. I have an '03 M3 6MT and a 335i 6MT on order. Just curious, but do you have an overall preference? (Maybe I'm suffering from buyer's remorse .)
