iDrive fault

Hi all,

Car went in to the dealer as the iDrive had totally died whilst driving along (blank screen, no audio) on three separate occasions. Had also been taking a long time to start up first thing before anything apart from the BMW logo came up on the screen.

All seemed good on collection, control worked much quicker and some other minor things (like USB search) had suddenly started working again.

Now, a week later... and a similar type of failure. Display briefly shows "NO SIGNAL" in orange on black background, no cut of audio, then goes back to previous screen as if I imagined it. A few minutes later, display and music dies as above. Was playing radio when this happened.

Has anyone else had similar? Software update seemed to resolve some false fault codes that the dealer found, any idea of what else they can do?

Sounds like the HD is on its last legs. The dealer would have probably done some kind of re-install but the fundamental problem still exists.

OK thanks. So is there a HDD in the non-nav models?

Mine did the no signal once on the way home from the dealer on delivery day. Three weeks ago. Hasn't happened since.

The valve in the filling pipe blocked today though, would not unblock no matter what I did. Had to pull the emergency opener in the boot to be able to full up. So the car's going to the dealer for a check up.

An update on this - pretty sure it is the usb stick that is causing the issue (when it is plugged in whether it is being used to play music or not). Was a brand new Kingston data traveller 16GB that I bought so is it likely to be the stick or maybe one of the mp3s is corrupted?

Rob, cheers for this. Without the USB stick in there have been no issues with iDrive resetting itself so I'm going to wipe the stick down to a handful of recently ripped mp3s and see if that sorts it... otherwise it might be the port like you say?
