07 335xi engine brake when slow down.

I have own 07 335xi for 2 weeks now.

I really do not like steptronic tranny due to mainly two reasons compared to my old 02 330i.

First is tranny hesitation. I would not mention here because everyone already knows about it.

Second is what really bothers me. When I slow down or completely stop, I feel like I use engine brake.
Have you guys here experienced that feeling?
Is that because brake assist thing?

Always, there are fluctuations with down shift even though I really carefully step on the brake pedal.

Is this OK?

I havent noticed any engine braking in normal "D" mode. Although I must agree there is a lag/hesitation with the tranny- but that's nothing DS mode cannot fix. Also "engine braking" is experienced more in DS mode than just D mode.

It's even more noticeable in DS mode.

becasue it's holding the lower gears as you slow down. Lower gear = more engine braking.

Are you experiencing this in both D and DS modes? I dont recall ever experiencing it in D. I'd imagine it happening in DS. I tend to always drive in M mode, and I tend to engine brake on purpose, if for no other reason than to listen to the motor.

I love it when it does that in DS mode

Of course I am talking about the test drive i did, I do not actually own the car. My wife's A6 does the same thing in "sport" mode. I actually hate the D mode in the Audi and in the 335xi. Too much hesitation, undriveable really.

I wonder if it is done to closely mimic the nuances of a manual transmission.

Sounds like you need a stick.

This trans is very efficient and advanced. You feel the roughness because it engages lockup at a very low speed to minimize any slippage. (Hence, better fuel economy). People used to complain about domestic transmissions going into lockup in upper gears at higher speeds. Imagine if they locked up at slower speeds below 20mph! This trans does an admiral job of making the transitions livable. All you have to do to confirm when this happens is slightly feather the throttle from the position you have it when accelerating gently. You will notice the RPMs don't move at all with the throttle pumping because the trans is already locked up. This constant transitioning and quick shifting soon as you take off under normal throttle conditions is what many people perceive as hesitation. But if you watch, the thing is out of 1st gear almost as soon as you start rolling. Watch thet tach as your drive and you see what I mean.
