Scratched back bumper :(

Today I come to the parking lot and lo and behold a scratch on the rear bumper Now the bumper itself is fine, but there is a rectangular "scratch" about the size of my fingernail, and its pretty deep, deep enough so the black underneath shows. It seems as if the paint was completely removed. Now... I am just wondering and trying to get some advice... what is the best method to repair this or have it repaired... and how much do you think it'll cost me? Do you think I can just use touch-up paint or will that not work because it's so deep? Thanks in advance... *sigh*

BTW the car is Alpine White.

Sorry to hear that. I had to deal with a similar situation, except mine wasn't just a scratch, more like a scrape.

Some idiot must have backed into me hard...but to answer your questions:

You CAN use touch up paint, but it's really hard to get it back to look the same if your doing it by yourself. The best thing is to get the whole bumper re-painted. Check your insurance company to see what your deductible is. If less than 500 your fine, or else they won't cover anything that's below whatever your deductible is.

I.E. - If your Deductible is 500 dollars. Paint job + labor = 400 dollars. Your insurance will NOT cover you because the job is under the $500.00 minimum.

Best thing I would do is just leave it or touch up paint it if it's not that bad. Or...you can use this as an excuse to get a new M-Tech Rear!!!

You can go to an auto-detailer and have them do a blend-in where they don't have to repaint the whole bumper. I had it done on mine recently and they were able to match the paint perfectly. It only cost $150 complete with everything, which was reasonable.

This happened to my wife's car last week. Even though it's a 4yo car, she was pretty PO'd since it was the first damage the car had received. I touched it up with some paint and unless you go looking for it, it's hardly noticeable to the common onlooker. I suggest you do the same and wait until someone rear ends you and you wind up replacing the entire bumper at their expense. This is what happened on one of her previous cars.

I think the best thing to do it's to put the "E90post" sticker on the stratch!

Someone scratched some paint off my rear bumper and when I went to the BMW dealer, they told me they have a "guy" who fixes small dents for them. So I had mine done, and it cost 200 bucks. No need to go through your insurance carrier.
