Autodimming mirror swap in
I have a 2012 Sport Line that only came with the standard mirror (no homelink or autodimming). I can't live without either of those it seems. Is there anyway to put a new mirror in its place that would have autodimming and homelink? I saw on the 2011 forums guys doing it all the time with a retrofit cable. I have the sunroof so would it be easy to get power to the mirror from there? Thanks for any info you can provide.

No luck just yet...
Automatically dimming mirror with garage remote is one piece of premium package that I would purchase separately. I have spent 30 minutes at the parts counter a few weeks ago trying to figure out if the retrofit is possible. So far I have determined that BMW has changed mirror mounting method, so retrofitting used mirrors from other models will most likely not work (see TIS screenshot). Going with the new mirror, I think we would need PN 51169285514. The cheapest I could find it was at getbmwparts.com for $544 plus shipping. The parts guy at the dealership was certain that the harnesses for each mirror are different and at the moment no retrofit cables are available. I think tapping into existing power sources would be possible without the harness kit - I'll be keeping my eye out for a used F30 mirror on eBay. Dibs on the first one

I do not use the home link feature, but the auto dimming mirror is the best I have ever had and I get night blinded easily. I could swear my side mirrors auto-dim as well, but I have window tint and am way too lazy to read my owners manual to find out.
My last two cars had auto-dimming mirrors and I still had to constantly move them around by hand.. although they sat much lower (Boxster and a 350z), so that probably has a lot more to do with it. |

Totally bumping this ancient thread but anyone find a solution to this? My 2012 F30 has a completely barebones rearview mirror, too, and I'd like to be able to change it. Thanks.
