rim protectors - Your views

Hi all, i'm new to the forum. recently pur chased a 320i e92, which i love. I also wanted a 335d but will have to wait now. no problems with the 320i its great compared to cars of old. i just wish i had more power. long story so 320 it is! I'M HAPPY!

My problem is that i needed new run flat tyres. Now... in tsead of replacing the tyres which needed to be done i sold the current 18" 193's and used the cash to buy some 19" 8.5/9.5J bbs ch. I have now curbed these REALLY BAD and am gutted. MY FAULT not the missus (sorry fowlks). but would like the get them refeb'd. i just wondered if anyone has tried these plastic RIM Protectors and what results did they find during use.

I am generally well behaved with my alloys but it appears that im not as good as i thought with these and might need a solution in the future after £200 referb is a lot after 6months. (well behaves was 9x17 stretch) never had an issue.

your views would be much appreciated.

They look ugly for one, will only save you in minor scrapes and always have the danger of coming loose.

I've seen a few reports of them coming loose at speed and damaging the wing.

YEAH thats what i thought. or along the lines anyway.

but the amount i have and the amount i heard or know when i look it doesn't add up to the amount i can see. I mean it embarrassing BAD haha

i stretched 17" before this and it was never this bad.i even tackle curbs at 45° to prevent but they still appear??

All you can do is improve your parking
Sometimes I park fairly far from the pavement depending on how wide the road is.
There is always a wide 4x4 somewhere, so me parking out wide doesn't make too much of a difference where I live.

You shouldn't be hitting the curb. Try and stay a foot away, open the door, then tighten up if you need to.

I'd rather get a refurb every 6 months then wear those rim protectors.

Look into coding your mirror into focusing on your alloys when reverse parking.

Try BJV Engineering, they are just outside the M25. Good Job.

I am PETRIFIED of kerbs. For this exact reason.

My OH doesn't have a driveway, so when I stay there I have to park on the road outside. To get up the kerb I turn the wheels so they're on full lock and creep up the kerb, then try to get the back wheel up at as sharp an angle as possible too.

Anyway. If they're genuine BBS alloys, they deserve the very best refurb you can get. not a £50 job from a chap on an industrial estate. Lepsons get superb reviews and they're offering free courier service at the moment:

Yeah Genuine BBS so would like to get the paint finish as close to the original colour as possible. I like the colour its a certain silver and really stands out.

My Parking is OK btw Guys. Believe me or not Must be phantom curbs or exposed alloys and low profile combo issues. I will try get a picture up later.

but i will have to put a Standard Content Waning...

Do you have the auto dipping wing mirror function? If not then manually use your mirrors to point down so you can see the wheel and curb. If I can't see properly then I stick my head out the window to look.
