Post God Damn Tar!!!!

my whole neighborhood road is being redone. dug up, balanced, and repaved. there is no going around the work area. so i come home from work look near the wheels and under the fenders and find rock stones, grass, etc stuck with tar all over. i touched the tar and rocks to see if it would just come off but no. i got this stuff all over my hands and i can't get it off with soap and warm water.

but i washed hands with dawn and used the metal scrubber thing in the kitchen sink and my hands are clean. now what do to about the car? i got some tar not yet dried on some of the paint near the rear tires on the lower bumper. i got a shit load of tar under the fender with rock chips, etc attatched. this won't even come off with high pressured water with soap at the car wash.

should i let the tar on paint and tar under fender all dry and give it a scrub with a sponge in warm water and soap? is it safe to mix a bit of dawn in the car wash soap? i have no clue what to do. help please.

go down to autozone or pep boys and get some bug & tar remover. you'll need to rewax the areas you clean

use Bug & Tar remover and/or a clay bar to get the tar off the paint.

as for under the wheel well. I'd probably just use a crummy stiff bristle brush and some soapy water.

is it safe to mix a bit of dawn in the soap bucket for my next car wash?

does the bug and tar stuff really get out this hard sticky tar?

Er.... no.... WD-40 like the oily / greasy / all-around lube. Blue and yellow can... like, every household has a can. I believe the same company owns lava soap now, but I'm not talking about lava soap.

Yes, washing your car once or twice with Dawn won't kill your car. It's not good for it, but it will pull any wax/residue off the paint.

Well, "Bug and TAR remover" should do pretty good at getting tar off your car.

Dawn would be okay now and then. I would just add more car wash soap (more concentrated). I doubt it will really do anything to tar though.

gasoline takes tar right up. i dunno how it would do on the paint though. Some tar dropped on my car when they were doing the roof at my work and i used gasoline to wipe it right off.

I have found WD40 works well too, just have to wash and wax after. It is a pain, I had this happen to both cars within the same week and it took hours for me to get the cars clean.......Good luck

DO NOT USE LAVA SOAP.

in case you didnt hear me

DO NOT USE LAVA SOAP

it has abrasive (pumice) in it that will scratch the hell out of your paint.

bug and tar remover

naptha (thats zippo fluid)

do not use:
-acetone
-laquer thinner
-brake fluid
-lava soap

Oh, and get ready to use a lot of elbow grease and plenty of hours off the clock. Sorry dude, same thing happaned to my car in the beginning of the summer, thankfully, I had a collateral exchange coming, so I didn't do it perfect, and now I have a brand new car (just picked it up on Wed!!!!)
