M5 wheels

HI GUYS, I have just got the M5 2012 as a demo for 3 days from BMW UK, it is white with the 20" M Sport wheels.
I am finding on UK roads the 20's in any suspension setting a hardish ride, I have changed pressures and gone from Comfort to sport to sport+ and the ride just gets harder.
Has anyone got/tried the 19" wheel option and found them a better ride?.
I may have to go that route if I purchase the car. I find it "Uncomfortable" to drive on 20's.

for those of us in North America, we have 19" for winter (345M style) and I do find the ride is much softer than 20". Perhaps, the winter tires are soft from the beginning and making the ride better.

As for 20", the roads I traveled on are not too bad and the rough road & potholes do add harshness to the ride.

do NOT get 19s with this car. it will look heinous. you will learn to like the harsh ride. you will not learn to like the way 19s look. trust me.

I ordered mine with 19's for a few reasons.

1. They look like M5 wheels. 20" look like they have been stolen from the M6
2. I am sick of road noise 19's are reported to be quieter
3. As you say the Uk roads are rubbish so more rubber the better
4. 20" are over 2k more. If (when) i want to spend 2k more on wheels I will pick my own. + 1" = 2k more Really

Winter tires should be much harder than summer tires, so I think your getting the benefit
Of an extra inch of rubber. On the same brand tire with an inch difference there will definitely be a difference in ride comfort. That said, im still going with 20s bc I like the look. For winter ill run stock 19s.

It's not much difference from 20s to 19s. The RFTs are causing the issue with harsh ride. Switch to non-RFTs and you should be fine.

20" only. The 19's are hideous.

I'm surprised by this - I think the ride on the 20"s is just right. I doubt that the 19"s will make a major difference if you really don't get on with the 20"s.

There are no run flats on the M5 and there is absolutely no way 1 inch of extra rubber doesn't do anything given the same exact tire. Does make it look worse though.

That's wild. Does the M5 comes with a compact spare or a can of fixaflat? 19s don't look that bad on an F10, but tires are usually more expensive compared to 20s (more common).

If the M5 had RFTs, then I would've solve the problem. My E70 X5 Sport has 20s stagged with Duns RFTs. They ride rough and loud. I switch them out to Contis DWS, things are now quiet + comfortable for over 10k miles. Huge difference.

Agree. 20s would look better.

Comes with a glorified Fix a Flat system, God help me if I ever need to use it. A 19" front wheel will be in my trunk for all extended drives.

20s are a must on the F10 M5 given its massive size. 19s look tiny on a big car like the F10

It does make A difference, just not a massive one.

I have adjusted the tyre pressures and the car is much better on these 20" wheels now, so pleased as they do look good.

I quite liked the look of the car on 19s, but then saw/drove one with 20s and it was game over for the 19s.

I was a bit worried about what the ride would be like, as the roads in London are full of potholes, raised manhole covers and other major imperfections, but have been amazed at how much it soaks up compared to my other cars.

I just walked out of my building and saw an M5 in the lot with OEM 19s - and they really didnt look bad at all, had they made that design in a 20" size it would look great I think. To say theyre hideous is a bit extreme, after all it is an M5. Given the size of the M5, I do agree that a 20" wheel better suits it.

What psi were the tires running and what did u adjust it to? I believe we should be at 35 psi and 41 psi if driving over 100 mph?
