Any insight into why E92s have more color choices than E90s?

Hello all,

I'm probably going to end up with an E90, so I can't help but be a little envious of all of the extra options E92 buyers have available, especially for color choices. For example:

(E92 vs. E90, 2008 335i)

Exterior Color: 14 vs. 12
Interior Color: 5 vs. 4
Trim: 4 vs. 3

not to mention an upgrade package to 230s.

So, any insight into why BMW would offer more options in a (traditionally) smaller volume product?

They seem to be differentiating the coupe from the sedan in a more obvious way with this generation of 3er, but it's not like we're talking about two completely different color palettes here, the E92 gets pretty much all of the same colors as the E90 plus a few extra (which are usually very desireable). I can only come to the conclusion that either some of the colors would have been unmanageable with the added E90 volumes or that BMW is trying to bolster coupe sales this time around.

Any thoughts?

This was removed from the option list. There is a rumor it may return, but for now it is gone from my order.

I don't know why BMW chooses to make some things available on certain models and not others. But, the Lemon interior is only available on the E90, so that is one option not available on the E92. (Priority one option)

I personally do not see why would you want to spend that much money on those 19'' wheels when you can get nicer aftermarket ones when you are done witht he RFT

Interesting, it's still showing up as an option in the E92 BYO on the BMW site.

Ah, good point. I wasn't aware that E92s couldn't get Lemon.

Since I have to buy snow tires and rims, I would like to limit the amount of tires I have to buy. And with using snows for almost half the year, I should be able to get the factory tires to last the whole lease. Besides, my E60 tires don't fit the E92, and who knows what car I will be getting in 3 years, maybe the new F10 5 series...

I'm actually a fan of BMW's sportier wheel designs (162, 230, 189, and CSLs, of course). Maybe it's just pyscological, but the BMW wheels just seem to compliment the sheetmetal a lot better than most aftermarket wheels, in my opinion. To each his own ...

Thanks, looking for change from my Black on Black 545i. I just got my PCD date, November 12th. Ugh, that is a long wait considering I ordered in July.

The base model of E92 costs more than the base model for E90. You pay for exclusitivity, even if it's only $1k difference.
