did you all even read the article. It saids he was crusing steady at 70mph. I am getting 35-36 mpg on my 330i on the interstate with my manual trans. So it is not impossible. We are not talking spirited drivings.

Honestly, I could imagine that 70mph cruising on flat (or slightly downhill) roads with no headwind could get you 30+mpg on the computer. I managed 25mpg as reported by the computer on my 335i's first 600 miles with plenty of city driving, mountain driving, and 90mph cruising. With a little less throttle and a little more flat highway, that could easily be 30mpg.

Its easier not to get onto the turbos in a 330.

I don't actually know; like I said, the mileage was as reported by the computer, which should probably be taken with a grain of salt. I didn't do my own calculations because I was in Europe, using fuel in liters and an odometer in miles, didn't have a calculator handy, and, the big one, never actually filled the tank. But I was still impressed with the fuel consumption on a green engine in the mountains.
