Thumbs up Impressed with the Steptronic

I just got back from a trip through the twisties and I came away even more impressed with my car than I was before.

I use DS mode pretty often and there is a definite difference in shift points compared with D. But when driven relatively aggresively, the behavior of the Step in DS mode makes it seem like a whole different animal. It will hang on to gears for quite a while, as if it knows you are about to come out of the corner and it's waiting for you to punch it again. It was almost as if the car was sensing what I wanted to do next.

This car is just so much fun to drive I can barely stand it. Tooling down the road is just fine and dandy and the E90 is great for that, but as soon as the road starts winding and the traffic opens up I start to grin from ear to ear.

This car just inspires confidence and stays predictable through it all. Sometimes I feel like a dope saying how much I love my car, but... well, I love my car.

Charlie

P.S. I passed a Ford GT going the other way. I'm sure that guy was having a good time, too

just wait until you wear out those RFT tires and change them to regular performance tires, you jaws would break!

G35_2_330, your making me miss my car even more. Your right though it is a fun car.

I have a road trip planned from L.A. to Monterey as soon as I get home. Only two more weeks..............

wait until 6spd owners come in.

DS mode is really different than normal D mode. shift point is totally different and much more sensitive to pedal movement. but bye bye gas mileage.

I agree - I rarely use DS because I'm usually just commuting, but it is much different! Cool to switch over once in awhile!

My four year-old noticed the the DS and asked me the difference. Now when she wants me to go faster she sayd, "Put it in DS Daddy!".

And yah, mileage for me is okay on the highway at 60mph, but throw in a little traffic or spirited driving, and I might as well be driving a Hemi!

My E90 is equipped with the automatic transmission and is only the second BMW I have owned with an automatic out of by quick count 12 0r 13 BMWs including motorcycles. While I still prefer a manual transmission, my wife (principal driver and a good one) prefers the autobox and I have other manual transmission vehicles. I must say that the modern ZF tranny in the E90 can be shifted more precisely and quickly than most people can operate a manual transmission.

I have my wife's car available if I want a Hemi. Unfortunately, it's planted in a Dodge Durango, which drives a bit like a big brick. (And yes, the gas mileage sucks)
