Auto Locking without I-drive?

I have a 2006 330i and auto-locking was never enabled. I test drove a 335i last night and it auto-locked. I asked the salesman, who said "sure, we can do that on your car". He then proceeded to check for the function on my car and said it was not there. I left my car at the dealer for service and asked them to setup autolocking for me. When I picked up the car, the advisor said "let me set that up for you" and proceeded to do the same thing as the salesman; he could not find a way to do it. Since it was after 5pm, I just brought the car home with no autolocking.

What do I need to do to enable autolocking? Are there options for autolocking (e.g. auto-unlocking?). Can someone tell me what I need to tell my dealer to do to enable this, because the guys I'm dealing with don't seem to know.

Thanks,

NCTim

Your dealer/service dept. must be idiots. I bought a 2006 330i with 5K miles on it. The auto-locking function was not enabled. I brought it into the local dealer, they enabled the auto-locking function within an hour. It has to be done through software, I think they tap into the car's OBC. I also had them enable the DTR lights at the same time. I can't believe a dealer doesn't know how to enable the auto-lock function. Amazing.

Also, there's a form the dealer had me fill out. It lists all the options that were programmable, i.e. auto-lock, DTR lights, and a bunch of other stuff. They program the OBC according to that list. It only took them an hour to do it.

Concur with dski69 - it's a no-brainer for the dealership. I also have an early production 06 330i, no problems getting it done.

You mean auto-locking on drive-off, right? If so, you should be able to do that for non-idrive as well. There is no auto-unlocking.

Depends which 2006 version you have. If it was built before September 2005 then the dealer has to set it for you. If it was built during or after September 2005 then you can do it yourself using the stalk. Your OM should reflect it - and you can check your "born on" date inside your drivers door pillar.

However, I believe for cars manufactured before March 2006, the dealer needs to make this change for you since you wont have the option from within the dashboard.

Actully cars built before Sept. 2005 as Ledzep already mentioned. From Sept. 1 , 2005 on, this came programmed as part of Personal Profiles.

Thanks!

That's exactly where the guys were looking for the lock icon and it is not there. I'll have to check my "born on" date, but clearly my car was manufactured before that option was available.

Also, I was wondering about any other options that might be available if I have to have the car "programmed" and someone answered that as well.

I guess I need to request the list, and make another appointment.

Thanks to all!
