iPhone 5 Media Adapter

My shipment from Europe came in. Had a quick opportunity to play with this today. Works as designed, and very happy to no longer need to carry an extra charger in case my iPhone goes flat.

Haven't tried video playback but I'm told it won't work - yet. Not a big deal though, I would never use it anyway.

I haven't tried video either but works perfectly. Got mine last Friday.

I got mine on eBay.de

Had it shipped to our Frankfurt office and forwarded by inter office mail.

You're probably best off waiting for WDImagineers shipment though. Genius to buy in bulk!

WDI can your supplier get us the aspherical mirrors for the M5 at bulk pricing? If so I'd be interested in starting a group buy thread.

Yes it's snap in. You remove the plate cover in your armrest compartment, and then just snap this into place. Once fitted it is secure and you can just clip the phone in and out easily.

It's much more convenient than fumbling with the cable.

I already have a set on my car. Love them.

Thats a very fair price. It cost me about $298 when you factor conversion rate, and that doesn't include intl shipping.

If you have coded video playback in your car while driving, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Great idea. I wouldn't mind having one myself.

The adapter itself doesn't support video playback so it's not a matter of coding.
With coding you could just enable Video in Motion.

I think the issue is that Apple's new dock connector which is licensed for third party use doesn't include a DRM authentication chip which prevents it from enabling video playback.

Let's not encourage BMW by telling them that $300 is a fair price for a plastic phone adapter.

I want this, but the cost is just absurd. The adapter costs more than the phone?? WTF

I'm pretty sure the media adapter only works for "naked" iPhones

Naked or with a Skin. My iPhone has a Wrapsol skin plus a Spigen Glas.t Slim screen protector. But no case. And it works fine with the adapter.

I have a simple question, what advantage does the iphone 5 cradle have over just using a simple USB cable connection? I usually adhere to the "KISS" principle especially if there is no real advantage.

Simplicity. Cable requires two hands and use of eyes to connect phone. Dock requires only one hand and no use of eyes, and therefore phone can be docked by right hand while left hand is doing the seatbelt. It's much more efficient. To me this alone is worth it.

It also enables iPod Out.

The interface on the iDrive is also a lot better than when you just connect via USB, I don't know why it is different but it is. Also charges almost twice as fast.
