BMW Sales report - food for thought
I've cut some of the 3 series numbers from BMW's sales report...
Model August 2007 Year-to-Date 2007 328i (E90) 4,941 34,381 328i Coupe (E92) 317 6,135 328i Convertible (E93) 313 5,950 328xi (E90) 2,030 15,318 328xi Coupe (E92) 360 3,571 335i (E90) 1,217 11,289 335i Coupe (E92) 1,005 7,086 335i Convertible (E93) 1,171 5,755 335xi (E90) 619 2,681 If it's of any consolation for those of us that didn't get a decent discount for a 335i Coupe, the numbers clearly show that Coupe owners want the extra power, making the 335i Coupe a hot model with bigger sales than the 328i Coupe (I suspect the difference may increase going forward with the 335ix Coupe now available). However, if you look at the Sedan (E90), you see that many (4x+) more people are happy with getting the 328i... P.S.: Sorry, couldn't make the numbers line up.

Yea, coupes tend to draw a more sporty crowd, so I guess it makes sense that they would prefer the larger engine of the 335. The preference for the 335 is even greater for convertible owners. I guess if you are spending *that* much money for a 3 series, might as well go with the larger engine.
What's interesting to me is that they sold so many xi's, would have never guessed that they were that popular judging by how many I see on the road. DC/MD/VA is probably the wrong area for xi sightings though. |

Wouldn't production numbers play a big role in this?

Numbers look funny for the E92 and E93.
328i Coupe (E92) 6,135 328i Convertible (E93)5,950 335i Coupe (E92) 7,086 335i Convertible (E93) 5,755 Its crazy how the overall 2007 sales for E93 has almost caught up with E92's. Wasn't the e93 just released a couple of months ago?

Well it lends some creadance to the notion that there wasn't any shortage of turbo's for the 335s, there was just a larger backlog of E93s so to hell with the small number of irritated coupe owners waiting and waiting...
