335i brakes on 328i
Hi guys, I've read a few threads saying that replacing the 328i's single piston brakes with the standard 335i 4-pot front, 2-pot rear is possible. Couple of questions.
What's the difference between the standard 335i and the 335i M Sport brakes? They both seem to be brembo 4-pot fronts, just the M Sport calipers are blue? I searched but wasn't able to find any successful threads of retrofitting the 335i's bigger brakes to a 328i. Anyone know of anyone who has done it already? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

In the US, only the pads are different between all the lines and MSport, not even blue calipers.

Yep, only the pads are different, euro pads- dustier but with more bite.

Have you read of any successful swaps? Seems like it would be a direct bolt on if the all the hardware minus the pads are the same as the 328i M Sport brakes. |

My only concern is if coding is needed. I would do it, but don't have an interest in paying too much for used 335 stockers and would need to confirm my 17 snow setup fits. My snow setup is too nice to have to ditch if they do not fit.

Another note about making the swap - BMW will not cover the pads under the free maintenance contract! They only pay for the pads as originally equipped.
Regarding the swap - the part numbers for the hub are the same across model lines. That meas the calipers should bolt up to the hub without modification. The brake hoses are also the same part numbers so that should be fine. But I imagine coding is required. When you switch from the regular brakes to the M Performance brakes, the dealer needs to code the car. I find it hard to believe that making the switch from stock 328 to stock 335 would not result in a coding change. |

From what I read on this forum, some of the 335i M Sport pads have noise issues...
Just do your research ...

Mine aren't M Sport, they are the regular 335i brakes.

Do you know if the shields are the same or am I going to have to find stock 335i shields as well? Ya, it seems like around $500 is the going price right now, and so far with starting my search last week I already have two sellers lined up. Really it comes down to proximity because shipping is expensive. Anyone in Arizona want to sell me these brakes? |

That's moronic...no worries, I'm sorting out installation costs on the M Perf Brakes...I'll have the 400's on next time we see each other too. BTW, I might be moving to the Hanover/Morristown area!!

See, MPerformance front and rear is about $2k from the dealer. See, I know at some point the dealers are going to have some crazy 50% off sale. So I don't see paying too much for used stock stuff. That would be an awesome move, MTown is a great area. 10 mins away from both my folks house and my house.

Its when stock builds up, or around holidays. Just last week my dealer was offering 35% off just for the hell of it.

Hmm...I might wait then...I know BMW of Morristown (ironically) has a stock build up and selling them at invoice now. I do want to enjoy them for track days at Lime Rock before I move to NJ though...TORN!
