Thanks for the info! one more question why doesnt it fit without spacers? because i would like to measure to know exactly what i want but depending on why they dont fit i will have to measure it differently

Are the specs on those style 5's 17x8 et20 front and rear?
If so, it will work just fine with 225/45/17. You need hub-centric rings 74.1->72.6. You don't need spacers, if you don't want to use them. You could add 10mm spacer to rear if you want. My winter setup is 17x8 et20 front and et10 (with spacer) rear.No rubbing or any other problems. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=30

Do you mean those small bolts that keep the wheel lip secured to center of the wheel? If it is only those that might hit the brakes then spacers should solve that, but spacing front more out, might get you rubbing issues unless you go narrower tyre etc. Rear isn't that big problem there is room. Of course it all depends how low you are, tyre sizes, camber settings etc. Here is beatiful car with 18 inch style 5 with spacers and low offsets. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=806941
