NOOOOO. No detail. Dealer detail = plenty of fine scratches.

When we bought my wife's CR-V last year, I actually had the dealer leave on the transportation film. I removed it when I got home, and of course the paint was pristine underneath.

Its a paint sealant. It will protect your paint for a loooong time but its fairly expensive to get it done right. You have to make sure the car is spotless before applying or you will be sealing in any contaminants.

+1000000 on no detail from the dealer. They will 100% guaranteed scratch and swirl the crap out of your car. No wash/wax and either detail it yourself or have it done by someone you trust at a professional detail shop.

Apparently it depends on the dealer. My Imperial Blue was detailed by my dealer (Monrovia) and they did a decent job...no swirls at all. But I've read bad things about different dealers from other posters here.

Thats mighty risky but glad it worked out. I have BSM as well and I knew better than to let my dealer touch the car. My old Black Acura and Gray E90 were both swirled at the dealer during initial detail - from that point on, I vowed never to let the dealer detail. You might get lucky but I'm not taking a chance of minimum wage car washer using a dirty, gritty, cotton towel to wipe down my car.

Also fine swirls are hard to see unless you are in certain sunlight. I can almost guarantee if a dealer does the detail, you will see fine swirls in your paint - it takes extreme detail not to swirl. Even doing it myself, I will inevitably start to swirl my paint at some point.

Do you have black gloss shadowline trim on the b-pillars and around the windows? I guarantee the scratched the hell out of that. Those parts get scratches just by looking at them

My dealer insisted on prepping my car for delivery. Sure enough they slapped some showroom glaze all over the car, including cracks & crevasses between doors & pillars.

My pro detailer had to spend time removing the gunk (to be fair, the glaze was applied to the exterior of the car without scratches or swirls) and had to remove a few water marks not removed after the car was delivered for prepping.

After all was cleaned and properly prepped, 2 coats of Wolf's Chemicals Hard Body sealant was applied and the results are fantastic. Still going strong after almost 4 months.

Since then I have not let my dealer wash or clean the car when taking it in for a couple of small warranty repairs & software update.

I hear you. Bob Smith Calabasas BMW is used to picky clientele. They actually did not put the front license frame on saying that most people don't want holes---even though you're supposed to have a front plate.

I am doing euro delivery which means I will have to wash the car myself before I drop it off. Less than ideal as I will go to a car wash near the airport in Munich. But anyway, despite the fact that I may incur little scratches when I wash it myself before drop off, I am still expecting to not have the dealership wash it.

Some dealers offer a hand car wash any time one wants. This was a buying reason for me when choosing my dealer- they're also closest to my home. There's never any swirls.

When we took delivery the wax job was fine; I will use my detailer in the future.

Mine had swirls and a hairline scratch into them.

Took it back to get a heavy coat of wax, but the swirls remain

Yeah. You need a dual action Porter Cable polisher or similar + compound to remove those scratches. Hand rubbing won't help.

I forget where I came across this, but I remember hearing that you shouldn't put any kind of sealant/wax on the paint for the first couple weeks in order to let the paint 'cure'. Can any of you guys validate/deny this?
