Question Voice command "Aux" yielding "Door Locks"

Hi everyone,

I have had my 335 coupe for less than two months now and this minor problem bugs me so much..I have my iPod connected to the system. Whenever I want to access my iPod through voice command, for which I have to say "Aux menu" apparently, it takes me to "Door Locks" or "Time." It's really annoying.. I have tried to say it in any way possible and every time I end up with the same result. My DVD software version is 7.02... If any one of you knows how to fix this problem, please share it with me.. I'm sorry if this is a repost but I couldn't find a thread related to this matter... cheers

Have you tried "AWKS-ILL-AR-EE"?

I find that saying "Audio Aux Menu" works everytime. And that's with a British accent...

+1 to say "Audio Aux"

Just saying "aux" yields to unwanted menu options.

I don't have my car yet - so forgive the dumb question....

Is the system configured with "British" expectations? The few examples I've heard of iDrive "speaking" sounds like it has a british voice, and you have to speak some words in a more "british way" for it to pick them up....

I wouldn't say that.
I still have my latin accent and it gets in the way when giving orders to my car.
On the other hand, I found that noise around you can easily confuse the car.
I say "map" and sometimes takes 3 attempts for the car to get it.

Voice Command literally sucks - especially in the E93 - top up or down.

I don't use the "aux" voice command, so I can't comment specifically on that (looks like you have all the advice you need anyway). But I used to have more trouble with voice commands before I read here to wait for the symbol to come up on iDrive before you talk. That helped. Also, it works better with windows closed and HVAC fan turned down.

It's definitely tuned for an American accent. I grew up in the UK and despite having been in the US for 8 years, I still have a strong British accent. When using the voice dialing feature, I have to say the numbers in an American accent for any hope of success.

Problem is, I can only sound even slightly American by exaggerating, and when I do I end up sounding like an informercial or game show host. The wife thinks it's most amusing.

I've noticed this is worse since my latest Progman update. I used to say "Audio Aux" and it would work every time. Now it goes to time, and door locks about 50% of the time.

Aux

I'm having the same problem with the "aux" command. It goes to "time." Must be mistaking aux for clock or something. I don't see anything in the manual for teaching it voice commands which sucks.

Also, is the system capable of selecting MP3 songs via voice command? If it is, I couldn't get it to recognize songs, artists or anything on the USB side. Obviously you can select FM stations and CD tracks via voice but I haven't figured out how to select songs via the USB option. Is this not possible?

I'll try that thanks. Do you have to manually scroll through your songs coming from your MP3 player or USB device when selecting a song? I'm using a USB memory stick.

I have an '06 E90, no USB. I plug my iPod into the aux jack and control songs through the iPod.

I haven't figured out a way to do it quickly. It's annoying. You can say "track 75" or whatever to jump way ahead, but it would be nice to scroll by first letter like on the address book.
