New Rims - Need Help

Gents,

I need some input. I realize this question has been asked before and the answers are subjective.

I have an e90 LCI 2011 Tiag. I am looking to replace my stock OEM rims with something stronger and lighter in the springtime. I have heard good things about APEX and Forgestar. I have had a set of VMR's in the past but the finish and durability was not what I expected. Guess you do get what you pay for....

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,

D

I am also looking for wheel fitment recommendations. I am leaning towards 18 inch wheels for cost and comfort.

Personally, come spring I'm going with 18" Apex EC-7 in a square setup.

After much research I decided on Matte Black Forgestar CF5 deep concave wheel (super light at 22lbs) with the following specs front 8.5x20 et33 235/30/20 rear 9.5x20 et35 275/25/20. that puts the fronts +1mm inside +10mm outside and rears +2mm +10mm. I think the 20's look nicer and with the offset moves the wheels out 10mm front and rear, I have 13mm give or take 1 or 2mm. I'm going with Nitto Invo's the profile 30/25 will match stock diameter pretty darn close. Please, if anyone has thoughts on anything different let me know why.

I'm buying 16lb-17lb 17" arc 8s, getting rid of a lot of unsprung weight, getting good looking wheels, saving money on tires all in one go.

Thanks Andrew,

May I ask why a squared setup over a staggered one? I have the OEM staggered setup at the moment. I am really leaning towards APEX as well. They seem to be the best built option without going fully forged for big money. I also like the Forgestar F14 as well. Still can't decide.

Thanks for the info. I took a look at these today. Definitely a great looking wheel. The challenge I have is that they have priced these non forged wheels in the same price price braket as BBS!

I have also been checking out the 17" version on APEX's website as well. The pics look great and I am kind of a fan of showing a little more rubber if you hear me. Post up some pics as soon as you have them installed. Might help me decide.

Here is a pic of the Arc 8's in 17". Looks great and the ride along with price is better as well. Makes you wonder whether this is the way to go....

I'm sticking with a square setup for a couple reasons;

1) Primarily, I like the more neutral handling that the square setup provides - a staggered setup introduces a little more understeer. Yes, this can be dialed out with suspension, tire, and pressure modifications, but I don't want to have to mess with it too much

2) ability to rotate tires front to back

Have also been looking at the Arc-8 - kiind of like both, and the reduced weight and cost of the 17" is attractive (plus I like how both look).
