225/50/17 on an E92?

Any issues with running 225/50/17 on an E92? Stock tire size is 225/45/17.

I know the speedo will be off by 3.5% as per http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

But will there be any other issues from running 225/50/17?

Thanks.

That's what I have now because I got a good deal on blizzaks off craigslist... no issues at all on style 157s.

Thanks for reply!

When I got my car it came with the 18" wheels, so I had no idea what the stock 17" tire size would be, and when I got my winter tires/rims installed last week, the shop installed the 50 tires and not the 45's. After reading through my owners manual yesterday I see they fudged up.

I am just paranoid about the increased tire diameter not being good for the car (tranny, suspension maybe).

I have to go back tomorrow and talk to them because I am not happy.

The speedo in all BMW is about +5%. The higher profile tire with -3.5 will results in the speedo be +1.5%. This is a small change and nothing to worry about.

Well if these are new tires and you paid full price I'd be annoyed... putting the wrong size on is a bit sloppy, makes you wonder what else they got wrong.

Take it back. It will wear your transmission when it's unnecessary to

Took the car back. Wheel shop apologized. When I told them it was 2013 3 series, they assumed it was an F30 which uses a 50 series tire. As soon as explained it was an E92 they knew it needed 45 series. In any event, I have the proper tires on now. And they look much better. I never realized what a visual difference there would be between a 45 and 50 series tire.

Thanks again to everyone that replied.

Shop made an honest mistake. F30's use a profile taller compared to E90/E92's. 2013 3-series coupe = E92, 3-series sedan = F30. Glad you got everything squared away.
