2013 328i M sport -- Should I change the oil early (1.5-2K) like on other new cars?

I took delivery of my 2013 328i M Sport almost a month ago and I'm wondering if changing the oil shortly after the break-in period (1.5 to 2K) is wise. I used to do this for every new car as I was told long ago that new engines have small metal shavings and other debris that should be purged early to avoid long-term damage. It's about $100 and I'm willing to pay for this ahead-of-schedule oil change. What do you guys think?

Here's a pic of my baby... (if I uploaded correctly)

There's much debate on this topic and I'm sure you'll get a variety of reactions.

In short, BMW has every interest to ensure their vehicles are reliable. They have a recommended maintenance schedule which balances cost with reliability. It's doubtful that it will hurt anything to do it early, but I personally don't see the need and don't plan to. I plan to follow the manufacturer's recommendation.

Nice car, congrats.

I'm investing in an oil change after 2000 miles. Cheapest insurance policy you'll ever get.

I'd think those who lease can skip it however.

It's really not necessary, but won't hurt either. Engines are machined to much tighter tolerances than they were back in the day. There won't be any "metal shavings" to purge. If there are, you have MUCH bigger issues that an oil change won't resolve.

Thanks guys... Still pondering at this point. I hate to waste oil and money but if it makes a difference, I'm all for it.

By the way, I'm already getting some carbon (or something) build up on the tail pipes. I'm pretty sure this is normal as all of them I have seen have it. so far, it washes off pretty easily.

This residue is normal, right?

I'm just barely over the 1,500 mile break in and haven't driven too sporty as yet but it is still there. When I check the oil through the computer, all is okay.

Thanks for your time and thoughts on the matter.
