Drive to CT this weekend

Fellow Nor'easterners, I must drive to Connecticut from ATL this weekend, what obstacles will I be encountering that I must watch out for? Please advise. Thanks

Gas could be a bit hard to come by between Phila and NYC on 95. Travel Safe.

Why run up on 95.

Take 77, 81, and 78 to 95 and bypass Richmond, DC, Baltimore, Philly and all the crap traffic that comes with those areas.

Difference in miles is only 15 miles longer and a heck of a lot nicer drive.

And if you want you can bypass the GW bridge and take 287 to 87 and bypass NYC and their huge headache too. This does add another 18 or 19 miles if going up to Hartford.

Have a safe trip.

I've done that route before and I found it to be much longer time-wise for some reason and the X factor will be with me, the wife.

Ya gotta learn to keep the left door shut because it's actually a faster route. I'm telling you that as a retired trucker, not because google maps says so. I'll stay off 95 and avoid the GWB anyday when I have an alternate.. Of course with my X factor with me, keeping the left door shut or just doing a 5 minute stop is an impossible task. Good luck, safe travels.

FWI- 3 crossings to consider across the Hudson river running up 95 These crossing are fairly close to each other providing access to New York, Manhatten and the Bronx

George Washington Bridge is open, but the Holland Tunnel is closed and the Lincoln Tunnel is now restricted to HOV3 only between 6am and midnight. Most of the traffic that was split between those three crossings is now pretty much forced to the GW Bridge. You may want to consider crossing the Hudson further north on the Tappan Zee (I 287)

I drive on 95 everyday from gwb to Stamford and gas is scarce. In past couple days I filled up at Stamford because westchester was low but now even Stamford is having its share of long lines. My best advice is to fill up every chance you get.

Best advice, avoid this area entirely right now. its getting worse, not better. I live just off Route 1/9, south of the GWB. if a station has gas, you'll be backed up 1 mile+ just to get past it. And you wont want to wait in a 90 minute line if you need it.

I am very sorry to hear this, sincere condolences to you and your family.

suggest following pmmjarrett's advice above. aim for 287 and the tap bridge, not the GWB. I dont know how bad the Merritt in CT is vs 95 once you get into CT, but either way your en route to new haven. Maybe even cut over east, further north, perhaps on 84. Just avoid as much of NJ as possible cutting thru here.

Likewise, my sincere condolences.

Running 81 to 84 only adds 40 or 50 miles. Good route too.

FYI Pilot and Flying J travel centers are reporting all of their locations are up and running after Sandy.

You can use their fuel price guide to help plan your trip. Gives you each travel centers location as well as the price of their fuel.

Really sorry to hear about your father.

If you need gas on your way up, I've heard from friends that the area around exit 7 off of the NJ Turnpike has plenty of operational gas stations with no lines.

Just got back from CT about 45 minutes ago, the route suggested was perfect, no problems with gas or the Moupe. Thanks to all for the condolences on my dad's passing. He was 93 and had one helluva run.
