DRLs. Will you use them during the day?
Ok,
Attention all current and future F30 owners. So this question only applies to those who have the Bi-Xenons headlight option, as the halogens do not have the cool white LED DRLs. Who uses/will use their LED DRLs during the day? I'm not sure about using them. They do look nice on but there's this negative stigma surrounding drivers who have their DRLs on during the day, especially when it is a bright, clear day. Forget comparing the F30 to Audi, Mercedes, Hyundai etc. I am interested in arguments for & against using DRLs during the day in city & suburban street. Is it a safety issue or a show off issue? I know that some countries have laws stating that DRLs must be used etc. It's not law here in Australia, so not that we have to justify using the DRLs, what are your thoughts and reasons for using/intending on using them? Thank you.

Always on. Improves visibility (I'll take any advantage I can get to be seen, it's a hangover from motorcycling) so for me it's primarily safety.
They look great too (far better than any others I've seen), so I'm doing a favour to the wider public by displaying the work of modern art and wizardry that is the F30. |

Yeah, always on. Don't have any problem using them during the day, even if its bright and sunny - they are daytime running lamps! They're a feature of the car, as designed by the manufacturer as I see it.

mmmm i don't know hey... it's a question i'm asking myself too....
Currently in my e92, I don't have the DRL on at all. (yes i know it's not the same as the cool looking F30 ones :P) I think I'll keep them on though this time round. They are designed like that from factory and I'm also a +1 for being seen on the road (far better than the opposite). Also now-a-days it seems like all car manufacturers have DRLs of some sort, so the negativity that once was associated with the pretentious DRL is not so these day IMO... So, in short, +1 yes from me too (when I eventually get mine ) |

I dont like the new bluey ones. Looks kind of cheap.
IF there is any way to make them yellow again then I will happily rock them, but if not (probably the case) then I am switching them off |

I think of DRL's as a proactive safety feature. I believe that it should be implemented in more cars. I find abit blinding at times maybe abit more blue or even yellow would be easier on the eyes.
My only concern initially years ago was the draining of the battery as more energy being drawn to power them but I think technology has come along way since then. |

I liked the original yellow one's on the e9x. When the LCI came out with blue/white DRLs, I have to admit, I didn't like them much. I think the white one's do suit the more modern front of the F30 though.

Yes, definitely on as it improves my visibility to other drivers. MG is on the darker side so it is harder to see. Oh, and they look super cool

I didn't get the bi-xenon lights myself so I can't speak for that decision (though I noticed that the 116i I've been lent during this week has a DRL option in the settings even with Halogens), but I thought I'd through in here that some other makes of vehicle actually don't have the option - if you have bi-xenon lights and the car is switched on, your day-time lights are on. Not to unlike how motorcycles work.
It's apparently a safety feature to assist pedestrians and other vehicles spot your car in conditions that would otherwise make it hard to see (like fog or heavy rain).

Thanks very much to everyone who contributed (and will contribute) to this thread.
More and more drivers are choosing to use some form of headlight lighting during the day, no matter the weather. I will, in most probability, use the DRLs after seeing how nice they look (white) on current BMWs. Not pretentious like some fancy designs, rather an integral part of the headlight system. Still will be viewed by some (perhaps many) as a show off piece, but then again my car is an F30 M-Sport in EB!!! Say no more. All being well, I might even be driving it by next weekend.

Yep, use them for a visibility thing. Not that it is hard to see a car or anything, but if you see a car with some type of light on I guess it just catches the eye a little easier and you know its a car that is moving and not parked.

I even activated the Welcome lights. The DRLs switch on for a short period when you unlock the car from the outside. Oh yeah, the DRLs are on all the time whilst driving.

The Bi-Xenons work well with the LEDs, but the fog lights' colour temperature doesn't match. I had a quick look tonight before I put the car in the garage.
I will need to take another long look again tomorrow night in the street.
