Video - 335i Passing cars at Streets @ Willow

This was at a Shelby club event in May 2007. It was shot from a cam taped to the passenger head rest. The 335 was stock.

We cant pass that cobra on the straight, it was way faster, he had an intake and a pully I think. But when your on his ass thru all the turns, he has to let you pass. Re the scion thing, you only allowed to pass on the straight. That pickup was movin for a truck, he spun pretty bad into the dirt, good thing it was a truck.

that GTI was holding better corner speed than the 335, even though the 335 has much more HP it had some trouble passing, and probably wouldn't have been able to get by if the GTI didn't let it pass.

doesn't say as much about the car as the driver though

I've seen a standard mini cooper pass a 911 turbo S at a trackday

I think he said you weren't allowed to pass on the corners. I'm too lazy to take the 7 seconds needed to re-read it.

that's standard track day rules

but the GTI was stretching the gap over most of the corners that I saw, and must have been exiting the corners with more speed as the 335 was even having trouble catching up on the straights

All I know is I kept leaning to the left, then leaning to the right, then leaning forward while I was watching that video. Then after I realized what I was doing, I got pissed off at myself because I know you're supposed to keep your shoulders square and level through the turns. Terrible form by me while sitting on the couch.

That red newer mustang got wacky there...saw the tail come out...Looks like you had fun...I have never been on streets..only Willow..the big track. I was on track once with a CJ7 jeep..with a light bar on the roll cage...he didnt corner very well either.

You know why, the 335i is staying so close to the GTI that the wind draft created by the car in front is causing the 335i to lose tire grip on the corners.

May be the 335i should install a rear wing to generate more downforce, but then, the wing would slow it down on the straights.

I actually use to have a wing...but it was on my 325i...see attached pic...definitely helped on those 90-120 mph corners...sucked going down the straights.

You cant see in the video but that GTI had a bunch of decals, that's why it was so fast. Seriously, no need to worry, it’s not that fun to be bouncing off a guy’s bumper through a whole lap when you know your going to pass him in the straights. The 335 was so much faster than that car in every respect you have to give him some distance at some point if you want have some fun during a lap behind him. Plus I was eating a sandwich. Next time (this weekend) I will face the cam backwards so you guys can see how fast the cars disappear.

Its hard to tell with videos...I have many of me in races..(none as mpegs..so I cant display here). The best are when you see the cars way off in the distance..and then you catch up...that is when you can tell how fast one car is over another. When you are right behind someone...you cant tell if someone is lifting..coasting..or braking..easy or hard.
