thermostat replacement?

I got a service engine light on couple of days ago and on saturday i used a scanner to read the code. It was p128 i belive, thermostat replacement. Ifinally took it to the dealee ship today to see what the damage was gonna be if they did the job. Well it turns out the damage is gonna be over $600+. This is such a ripp off because the part itselft is 100$ and the rest is well....bs!! So my question is, has anybody done a replacement or gone to a shop in northern nj that would do this alot less!? Also since im replacing the thermostat is there a need to bleed the watee pump? Btw i have no issues with my ac or heat on they work perfectly fine. Also there is a diy with this topic but some of the stuff doesnt make sence because im not replacing the water pump. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

I can assure you its nowhere near $600 just for labor! That is absurd. But I would suggest replacing the waterpump at the same time, when the t-stat comes out its only another 20-30min worth of work to pull the waterpump....replacing both at the same time not only saves you on the labor, but will give you piece of mind that you wont leave the shop and a week later be left stranded on the side of the road.

If you want, give us a call tomorrow, we could probably get you in to take a look at it. 201-666-3500 , just ask for me

hr drive is not really that bad...I have guys that come from south jersey and MD

The other thing too is that we use all OEM parts...no aftermarket stuff...BMW warranties parts for 2 years.

He doesn't wanna pay high prices or drive far as stated above -.-

This is a DIY for any newb.
Check the proper forum section and buy the parts from ecs. They have been cheaper than anyone lately.

As far as shops... Any shop can do this. There is nothing special about it. Buy the part and have it installed anywhere really.

Comes out to $585 for E92's. I believe you can get them for a bit cheaper at the dealer.

Exclamation Thermostat Replacement

I replaced the pump and T-stat on my 335i about a month and half ago. Don't have warranty on the car, dealer charged me $1,700 as a total...(That included check up, $120+NJ tax, t-stat...pump) Pump was like 540, t-stat was 125. Ended up doing it on my own. It's a bit of a PIA but its not bad. Doable...with some time on hands. Let me know if anything.
