I replaced my gray poplar dash with carbon fiber. After reweighing the vehicle, it had shed 14 oz. I decided to then go after unsprung weight, and so I removed my valve stem caps.

good stuff here!

Seriously, if you really want to loose weight, I don't think theres much you can do other than stripping the interior, getting rid of the backseat, etc.

MLIW - good band!!

Tear out the stereo, rip out the AirCond, remove all sound dampening materials, passenger seats, replace body parts with carbonfibre, use lighter rims and tires etc. etc.

Sure, You'll end up beeing light, but you'll have a very uncomortable ride.
Trust me, I use to work for a car company in Sweden and I have driven their ETCC cars (European Touring Car Championship) these are as light as they get but noting I'd like to be in unless I wear a track-suit, earbuds, helmet and know that a shower is waiting once I get out. The new M3 is probably as much street-racer as you can get. If you want more, get a dedicated track/autocross car.

Take a couple laps around the track, that should help the car lose a couple of lbs.

Exercising your car will make it lose A LOT of lbs. FTW!

I have a feeling you are buying the wrong car. If you have to go "bare bone", you should be looking at Lotus.

Realistically, without de-optioning your car by gutting it, get some light forged rims w/o runflats (they are heavy), go on a diet, and don't travel with a full tank of gas.

Lighter wheels are the biggest way to improve performance by losing unsprung weight...you aren't going to get anywhere without venturing into aftermarket territory without de-luxurizing your BMW.

Without using aftermarket parts, you are limited to simply removing things from the car. There isn't that much that could remove that would make a big difference really. Taking out the passenger seat and the rear seats would have the biggest weight loss. Removing other things would add up, but very slowly. And at the end of the day, you'll have a very spartan car to drive around. Some would say ruined (myself included.)

I think there are a few hundred pounds that can be shaved with the right mix of parts.
1.) Wheels - stock 18's are heavy, like 32 lbs each! Go extreme with some Dymag's at 14 lbs each and you save 72 lbs. Might be able to push that to 75 lbs in savings by switching from RFTs.

2.) CF Vorsteiner hood. Not sure how much the weight savings would be, maybe 30 lbs?

3.) Take out the front seats and replace with Recaro race seats, which weigh 18 lbs. I'm not sure how much the stock seats weigh, but I'm guessing you'll save 50 lbs or more by this change.

4.) Lightweight coil-overs might shave a few lbs. Maybe 5?

Anyway, the biggest weight savings without compromising the "luxury" interior are aftermarket wheels. The stockers are very heavy. Handling should improve too by reducing the unsprung weight by so much.
