Vanguard exhaust drone idea. Input please
Hey so I have a fully catless automatic with a vanguard exhaust. There is a fair amount of drone from 1500-2200ish RPM. I drive this car for an hour and a half a day so it is getting a bit bothersome. So I was considering welding on the exhaust flap from the oem exhaust onto the vanguard to quiet things down.
So I know that exhaust pressure would need to be equalized across the two sides. The oem has a link right in the mufflers while the Vanguard has an H pipe in the midpipe. Would this still allow pressure equilibrium. Another question, at what RPM does the exhaust flap open up normally? Any input would be appreciated or suggestions. Thanks guys |

Before I did the 'golf tee mod.' I can recall the flap opening up around 2.8-3k RPM. Then again it's been years, so don't quote me on that. Good luck with your project.

Don't weld ANYTHING to the Vanguard......Please.
Just cruise at a higher RPM (about 2-3 hundred more than you normally would), and the drone will be virtually unnoticed..... I have the same setup.....

Welding the exhaust flap shouldn't be a big deal. If I decide it is better stock, by unplugging the vacuum tube it essentially will be. My main question really is if there is a cover on one of the pipes will the H pipe allow pressure equalization. I dont want it to cause any problems.
