my idrive is retarded....and its pissing me off

while im driving....

- the idrive will automatically restart and start back on the track it was on when i first turned the car on. when it restarts it shows the whole BMW thing again and i gotta press accept.

- when my phone is connected, sometimes if i get a call the ringing throughout the car keeps going even if i have already answered and the person calling can even hear it and i gotta pick my phone up and talk through the phone.

- sometimes if i dial a number through the idrive, it'll go through on the phone and on the phone only while the idrive is just displaying the timer.

- the thing reacts slower then the fucking snails in my garden after it rains.

- i already took it to the dealer and my SA said they werent able to experience the problem but reprogrammed it just incase (and it still does it).

- sometimes while its restarting, the screen turns blank and even makes digital noises.

do you guys think the latest progman update would help? my M5's idrive is what an idrive really should be and not this slow, retarded POS.

That sounds bad. They need to replace something.

Nothing to do with iDrive, sounds more like your mobile is not compatible. Is it?

No, the intermittent problem is very indicative of an incompatible mobile phone.

I was about to suggest the same. My previous Sony Ericsson z520a did this now and then, it didn't transfer it's phonebook each and every time either so it certainly wasn't 100% compatible. My newer Nokia 6126 never had any of these problems, so I guess that unless the phone is 100% compatible, certain...undesired results are bound to happen.

To the OP's first post:

1. That's not right...

2. See above paragraph.

3. Probably related to #2.

4. I wholeheartedly agree!

5. Go figure

6. Definitely not right

an incompatible phone does not cause i-drive malfunctions like the ones the OP is describing....not even close..

ja, sure, of course, except that it is showing all the signs of being incompatible with the car. Makes perfect sense.

dude ok...how hard is it to read? i keep implying SOMETIMES. my whole point is - whether my phone is compatible or not, which im pretty sure it is since i know my own phone and i can scroll through the menu and call contacts from the idrive, my idrive is defective somehow and im just asking for maybe a simple way to get all these bugs fixed. maybe an update would help? who knows?

i wasnt asking for someone to ride my dick about a fucking cellphone which i know IS compatible. do you work at cingular or something?

before i enter my car i always turn activate bluetooth on my phone and as soon as the car starts up the phone is paired within 2 seconds. i think if it werent compatible it would at least take forever or will not even work at all for that matter. plus i doubt i would be able to dial and answer through the idrive.

It´s incredible what you are so sure of or think you know - your mobile phone is compatible because you just know it. Doesn´t matter that what you described indicates incompatibility, you just know it will work.

I told you what the intermittent phone problem probably is and you can choose to ignore it. That´s fine although it doesn´t help you any and you are ignoring good information. Again, that is your choice.

The other problems you described are probably CCC related. If you got a software update, then they have to check for faults and it probably means replacing the CCC.

Now, about your anger management issues...

Hmm well I guess that there must be magical powers in my M5 since the phone is 100% compatible with that. Never a single problem or issue. Not saying it isn't with the 335i, but theres just gotta be something holding back the iDrive in my 335 that's making it not function completely, or something....I really dont know whats wrong with it. My whole focus isn't with phone compatibility anyways, since there are still 5 other problems whether it is compatible or not......

I mean if that phone problem I have had, happened all the time, meaning EVERY time I drove the car, then I would take your advice; but it only happens SOMETIMES.

There was even an iDrive compatible phone list on this forum and I remember someone else also had a W900 and they said they've never had a single problem....

Its my iDrive, I'm telling you. The phone thing is the least of my concerns though since it barely happens....

Your M5 might have a different version of Progman than the 335i - so it might work differently (better?) with some phones such as the W900.

The symptom you described with the phone, however, is typical of an incompatibility issue. That doesn't guarantee that it's incompatible, it just points to it.

The problem ALSO points to a TCU problem if it's not phone incompability.

iDrive just displays the stuff, it doesn't process the calls, so while your other problems are definitely iDrive problems, this one is very iffy.

I believe in a previous post I also said that your other symptoms might merit a CCC replacement since they already updated your software.

Unfortunately, this type of problem solving (as you are finding out) is an art, not a science.

To isolate the problem, keep the phone in the house, and then go see how your iDrive behaves (or just get the phone well away from the car, or turn it off completely).

You may have already done this, and if so and iDrive still acts up with blank screens and the like as you described, I'd take it to another dealer and get someone else to do diagnostics on it. My car is only a couple weeks old, but my iDrive has never done any of those things.

Actually, that's not it.

No one is saying the mobile phone is causing the problem. And most of the problems aren't related to telephony anyway.

I thought I had mentioned this earlier but in checking the thread I had not: in order to isolate the problem in terms of whether the specific telephony problem is related to the SE W900, he should try using a mobile phone that is known to be fully compatible (such as a Razr or BB Pearl) and see if the same problem occurs.

If the problem does not occur, we have isolated the telephony related problem to the phone. If not, it is likely (for this problem) to be the TCU.

It's definately the TCU. Just tried a friend's razr and the problem occured, which is weird because it happens so little. My 335i is a later version then my M5 so I never thought the phone problem was within compatibility.....it really is the TCU.
