Hey Guys, i'm in the market for a new exhaust... i was leaning towards an AR downpipe with one of those three options (HKS vs. Eisenmann vs. Akrapovic).

Any input, experience or suggestions? Thanks... 2009 e92 335i with DCI and JB4

I don't have AR downpipes but I do have VRSF, doubt much difference in sound.

I have eisenhaus race which should be similar to Eisenmann.
Pretty aggressive but I like it.

Well there's some differences between the exhaust you're considering:
  • HKS -- Full CBE, will prob have the most droney out of all your options.
  • Akra -- VERY expensive for the axle-back section, RIDIC expensive for the whole CBE. Quality of materials is #1 so you're def getting what you're paying for
  • Eisenmann -- IMO, the best sounding exhaust. A little pricey & it's just an axle-back section, but there won't be any drone if you keep the secondary cats in

Here's a video of an Eisenmann Race with AR DPs (so a perfect sample for you to consider). Like I said, this is my favorite exhaust setup & if I had the money, I'd be sending you videos of it installed on my car instead

AR DPs are very popular, could also consider Fabspeeds (top notch quality, little less expensive if you buy them from VAC Motorsports) and/or CP-Es (also less expensive than AR's, also great fitment like the ARs)

This depends on your transmission. Expect lots of drone with AT with stock primary / secondary cats. Multiply that by 2 if you plan on removing the primary cat (with the addition of rasp). Removing the secondary cats just gets too raspy.

If you are MT, I have heard there is no drone however I am sure there is rasp with either primary or secondary cats removed.

p.s this is my e-race cold start in the winter (car sat for 3 days).... its brutal...

What?

I have zero rasp/drone with my Akra DPs & OEM CBE with a 6AT. Drone becomes more prevalent when people remove the secondary cats (which dual function as resonators) or swap out the midpipe section. Yes, AT cars are more prone to getting drone/raspy, but that's why you should keep the secondary cats in.

IMO, if you want the best sounding/performing exhaust with minimum drone/rasp, it's:
  • Catless DPs
  • OEM Midpipes w/ Secondary Cats
  • Axle-Back Exhaust (could be BMW PE, UUC/Corsa, Eisenmann, Billy Boat, etc.)

If you're hearing is too sensitive & that's droney for you, then look into adding additional resonators (Helmholtz style) will take care of it.

lol very wrong

the eisenmann race with DP's and secondary cats has an incredible amount of drone. most people wont be able to deal with it; current roommate had it on his 335 n54 w/AR DP before he went to an e92 m3. he would have to keep his rpm's around 2700-3000 to avoid the drone. even then, it's just plain loud and keeps resonating the cabin. it's almost worse than muffler delete

i daily drove an hks with macht schnell dp's for about a year; very little (if any) drone and is very livable daily, especially if you have a spouse that bitches about drone. it's probably marginally more droney than running stock exhaust + DP's. the 1800-2300 rpm drone range is much quieter than vanguard, AE, muffler delete, and eisenmann race.

i've only heard akrapovic without DP's, it is an excellent sound and if i wasnt trading the car soon i'd buy one to try out with my DP's

I'm not really surprised that the Eisenman Race (or the Remus Race) drones with DPs, wouldn't even be surprised if those Race Style exhausts drone'd with OEM DPs still in. The Akra is an incredible piece, but it costs over $2k for just the Axle Back Section & then ~$5k for the Full EVO Exhaust. Personally I can't justify that expense for the (max) 15 WHP you get from that piece

If you have the money and it wont hurt your pockets then get Akrapovic.

Second option would be CP-e for the following reason:
  1. Cast bellmouths heads
  2. Mandrel bent tubing

They are also "significantly" CHEAPER than AR DPs .

it is indeed a very drool worthy sound, i cant justify the price for the full evo either.

+1 for single-bent tubes like BuraQ mentioned. IIRC, Akra, CP-E & Fabspeed are the only DPs built this way

May sound crazy but my Eisenhaus race definitely drones less after I added downpipes.
Before doing DPs I was planning to add resonators or something.
Now it's not near as bad.

I'm referring specifically to authetic Eisenmann Race which drones with AT even with both stock cats.

I'm installing an Akra slip on in a week, but it's getting slipped onto catless tubing and aftermarket Dp's. I've been staring at it my garage for way too long. Neighbor's are going to love me!

I have Esiemann Race (axleback) with stock d/p and midpipes, drone too much in the cabin that I can't take it during idling or 1-3 rpm. 6AT here hence why I changed to Akrapovic.
