What Happened to my CF??

Ok...my splitters are like 5 days old!

And while enjoying looking at them at them this afternoon, there are 2 gray spots on my passenger side one!

I mean they stand out alot! One is about the size of a Pea, and the one right next to it is the size of a dime! I have washed it, clayed it, and even took the Porter cable to it! Nothing happened! I can see the weave underneath whatever this is! I am betting it is damage (rock or something) but I just wanted some help from you guys! Is this what CF looks like when it gets damaged? They are Bavdom splitters. If this is damage can I get just a new passenger side one? Thanks guys!

These are camera phone pics (sorry for the quality)!

when you run your fingers on top of it, does it feel like a chip/crack? if it does, then a rock probably hit it while you were driving, if it's smooth, then it's a QC problem, meaning that the resin is not adhering to the CF weave correctly

oh OK then, it's a chip, not a quality issue with the CF, if you can feel a rough spot, then it's a chip, the CF weave has a layer of resin on top of it to protect the CF from damages, it's like lacquer on top of your wood furniture to protect it from scratching

I would've invested in a clear-bra, that was my mistake, and if I do get a bodykit later on, I would definitely clearbra that sucker

Thanks bud!! I am going to see what I can do tomorrow with it..I might try a VERY SMALL piece of sand paper, and then cover it with some of the Touch up OEM clear coat! It is really obvious looking, and as long as I can get rid of the gray color and make is black again I will be happy!

i got those too. it's from rocks and other shit hitting it while driving. as said, it's basically the thin sheet of carbon fiber separating from the resin and clear coat.

the replica cf spoilers don't seem to be that strong (that's what i have). i hope they last at least another year or so.

lesson learned for me: no replica cf stuff for the front of the car.

It definitely looks like the resin delaminating from the carbon fiber as a result of impact.

So I polished it for a while until it flaked off, it was the resin covering i guess!

Now that I think that it is from something hitting it, I do remember some ricer parking too close to my car, I only did a quick look then, but I guess it is possible that he bumped into it!

Anyway I took some OEM clear coat stuff and started layering it over the the resin-less spots, I think I did about 4 applications but I looks almost as good as new! I really don't think it had anything to with the quality of the CF, I think some jack ass just bumped into me! I looks ok for now, and is no longer gray at all! I am still pissed it happened but it looks ok, and unless you get on your hands and knees no one will ever tell!!

The same thing just happened to my splitters from highway driving. Exactly how did you repair it? You said you polished it until the separated clear coat fell off?
