Is it just me or?
I personally am really disappointed by new 328i.
When i think of BMW, one thing comes up to my mind: inline 6 NA engine (Hold on 335 owners dont get mad yet!) IMO putting a turbo into 6cyl engine is some what acceptable because its "adding on" to the BMW style. But 4cyl turbo? Really? It doesn't matter how it became faster despite downsizing or has better MPG BMW gave up BMWness. That's why many people criticized E90/92 M3 for being V8. Of course, in terms of business they probably were under heavy pressure by their rivals such as Audi for starting the downsizing trend, but I still am quite disappointed how BMW broke their creed. What are your opinions? |

Don't forget, the heralded E30 M3 had a NA 4 banger (S14) engine. In 1990, they also built an S14 Evo 2. My point is that there are also strong 4 cyls in the bloodline.

I just got to drive one a couple weeks ago, and there is no 'downsizing' to it. The torque (60ft*lb more than N52) is fantastic, and they picked the perfect gear ratios with the 8-speed auto. It feels very powerful, smooth, and doesnt feel like its working hard at all. 0-60 in 5.9sec is good in my book for 23mpg city / 34 hwy...
Ive also driven an X3 with the N20, and it too was very responsive. Who ever would have thought an SUV with 2.0L engine could be 1) Smooth & 2) fastest in its class. Seriously, go test drive one. Its impressive.

maybe your mind just went into self defense mode cause the e9x 328's are inferior to the f3x 328's. Ill buy you a free f30 and lets see how you feel about your old e90. Get with the times....

I tried to test drive one over at Reeves in Tampa and I got shoved out the door by a sales manager because I look young and there was a 30 something couple looking at it. His loss I probably would have seriously considered buying it or a new 5 series (which I like better).

E46 > E90 > F30 in terms of driving dynamics. I own a E90 but IMO the E46 offered better driving dynamics. Still my favorite chassis until this day. E46 330i ZHP > all E90 minus the M. The F30 is a bit too soft, I will wait for the M package.

Thats great, im glad your into driving dynamics. But they are or gearing towards a well balanced over all machine, which factors targeted demographs. Cost/mpg/larger interior/better engine/trans efficiency/state of the art technology. This appeals to the general public vs the 10 minorities that are into wow what a great chasis feel. As im generally speaking cause theres always those exceptions like yourself.

I'm not sure if I agree with you... I think you're mixing up your feelings about the performance of the F30, which you haven't driven, with the looks of the F30, which I'm also not a fan of.

ok minority guy, ill go buy a lexus that will fix everything. Those 30 year old moms you see on the road these days are really taking these ultimate driving machines to its fullest right? If youre soo into "driving dynamics" then sell your e90 and get back into a e46.

Everyone wants to tread on the 4 cylinder but the fact of the matter is that one was in an M3. Funny how everyone forgets all of these minor details as the auto industry progresses and innovates to give us the maximum HP with the maximum MPGs |

BMW made a 2002 Turbo, a 320I Turbo and a 4 banger e30 M3.
The e30 M3 is still considered by more than a few to be the only "real" M car before the e9X in the 3 series blood line. The e36 was not a good follow on; at least here in the US where we got a six with no individual throttle bodies, etc.... The e46 was big and heavy and could have used more ponies. Anyway, I don't see anything with wrong with a turbo 4 in the lineup. |

Every single new 3 series has been said to have gotten fat, soft, lost its edge and become too civilized since the intro of the e36.
By time time they have been replaced, they had been regarded as the greatest model in a line of great sport sedans. Food for thought. |

I'm not biased here since I don't own and E90 or F30. However, judging from exterior looks alone, here's how I see it:
Front end: E90lci > F30 Back end: E90lci < F30 Profile: E90lci > F30 I just don't like that "snoot" on the F30. The lines are funky and it looks puny.
