I've never put in over 14.x gallons. My mileage says around 50 something left.

Ya there's been several threads about the potential for some bad shit that can happen by letting your car go all the way to the end of a tank of gas. Something about the deposits that can get left at the bottom of your gas tank and find their way into places where you don't want them to go.
Some of the experts can chime in here, but there's a reason you're i-drive/yellow indicator warns you when you get low. In answer to your question, I fill up with with probably around 3 gallons still left in my car. |

On our road trip I got off some side road that Garmin told me to take getting home. It showed I would intersect I-40 and I knew there would be a gas station there. As I pulled up, I noticed a LOT of cars leaving the station, just pulling in and leaving. I thought maybe they were out, then I saw teh sign: regular, $4.75/gal Car told me I had 32 miles, Garmin told my wife the closest real station was 26 miles. So I hop on I-40 and set cruise back to 90. Pretty soon car is constantly counting down mile to like 20, I ask "Just how much further?" She checks, and now the closest gas station is 40+!!! She failed to noticed the closet that came up was NOT along our route. Recalc, it shows 32 miles (Ludlow) and car is showing 24. "Well honey, I know it's 105 outside, but I gotta turn of the A/C." I slow down, draft behind trucks uphill, nuetral down hills. We get to Ludlow with 12 miles showing on the dash. I put in 15.975. ASSUMING the 32.1 mpg the car was calculating, I had about .4 gals left.

I've put in as much as 16.4 but its usually 16.1... I usually don't fill up until the DTE says less than 10mi.

The reserve tank is 0.2 gal I think 15.9 tank + reserve = 16.1 gal. I did a 16 gal fill up ones and I posted the same thread haha

Lowest I let it get to was when DTE said 15 miles. I filled up 15.9 gallons. Usually I fill it up when it says 75-100 miles.

Once, on my 328i E92, the DTE said 15 miles and I put in somewhere around 15 gallons. Never more than that though.

as far as e46 goes, i can run on *** (showing 0 miles left) for another 40miles
Meaning it goes to reserve and 40mil is roughly 2 gallons Read your manuals guys, i dont believe e9x tank is smaller than e46s |

Its usually low 14s. For some reason, all my local Shells were out of premium, so I almost ran out of gas in my E39 yesterday. I filled it up for 17.489 gallons!!!!!

Those saying it is bad to go near empty are kind of like the ones that say you need to change your oil before dealer does. It is a brand new car should not be much gunk and what not.
I have driven my car numerous times to near empty. Allows your car to be lighter which is always good. Shoot, just today I went to the ---mls point. I knew I had 40 left so wasnt worried.
