why is my loaner 335i faster then my 335i...
what gives?
I finally gave my car into the shop today to get HPP fuel pump checked out as well as fix the front wheel they damaged while replacing the tire. The loaner 335i i have is significantly faster. I tap the trottle and i feel like the car wants to break traction, take a corner rather quickly and traction warning light goes crazy. Both of this not evidant in my car. Could this be related to the fuel pump? Can i request the dealer to reset my ecu's learning to see if that makes a difference?

It's cuz the car learns your general driving habits. You drive like a nanny in your car but now want to drive this loaner rough. If you don't get on your car often the car learns how to react to your driving. Like if you always start slow off the line the auto tranny will begin starting in 2nd gear instead of 1st to save gas.

A question about the learning behavior of our cars: How long does it take to re-learn driving habits? People ask about resetting, but can't you drive differently (ie, more aggressive) for a while?

You know, I would have said your nuts that the car learns, but I am convinced of it must.
After driving it for 7 months now and the original novety of the power & speed has worn off, I tend to be more conservative about my driving since it is my every day commute car. Now the car does feel a but more suggish and I wondering if it was the gas or something so made sure I was using the good gas and still the same. Then I really push the car again, and the responsiveness seems to be coming back. |

the loander "D" is so much more responsive then when i am in "D" on my car as compared to "DS" where in the loaner, it's just insane and in my car, it's more timid but alot better then "D"

i had to fight for it. they had me in a base 328 and i told them that if it is a Fuel Pump problem, i will be damned if i am stuck driving a 328 for the next 2 weeks.

Thinking about it, though, does that make any sense? Is the "learned" driving behavior reset every time you take a long highway trip, then? FWIW, I have a MT so I can't experiment with this. Although it's nice to just drive and not have to worry about my car re-learning my driving habits.

So you took it in for a fuel pump before failure? That's nice, I thought you had to wait for it to fail and get stranded before they would do anything. Do you have major fuel pump failure symptoms?

well, i don't know if they will fix it. I had some other things to be looked at so i told them to look at the car for fuel pump failure like signs. i.e. the car takes roughly half a minute to start + multiple attempts. It stalled on me once in traffic and threw a check engine code. We will see what the dealer says?

So how do you know the loaner is faster? seems like that would be next to impossible to know without a head to head comparison.

We dont even have 335 loaners. Mostly just base 328s and a few X3s. we cant keep the 335s in stock long enough to even think about making it a loaner.
