Not really a good idea to buy spark plugs on ebay. Go to any auto parts store and get a good set of OEM bosch plugs. If they don't have them, go to your dealer and pick them up there. ( I bought mine @ the dealer for $16 each.)

FYI, BMW's are not like Honda or Ford where you use any type of non BMW products in the car without a degree of risk. Whenever possible, use BMW products or approved products. These cars are designed to work in certain temperature ranges or environments. There's a reason why BMW plugs are used.

In the long run, you'll have less issues.

The plugs you need are the Bosch ZGR6STE2, same as the plugs with the Bmw logo.
Look at this thread:

First of all, why change plugs after only 40K?

Any money you may think you save by buying off Ebay or any other similar source is mitigated by your unnecessary, IMHO, change of plugs so early!

I just changed plugs this past weekend and after a 100K, they still looked gr5eat. BTW NGK's are a BMW oem plug, that's what came out and that's what went back in!

BMW has changed the plug in recent years to this one for at least non-turbo ones;

NGK PLZFR6A-11S 5987

BMW recommends changing the plugs in the N54 @ 45K miles.

I bought the BMW Bosch plugs off ebay. I think it was $69 shipped. Have yet to install them, but they all look like the real deal.

Thanks for the clarification! MY question regarding why change at 40K is not germane and I apologize for my incorrect assumption.

Also no NGK's for turbo only Bosch ACCORDING TO MY BENTLEY'S...

If you read my qualifying words in statement. This particular Bosch plug falls into the "approved" category. Just want to help avoid those who may go down to their local auto supply store or certain eBay sites, and pick up a set of plugs for $15-$20. Even though you may have bought this particular brand, you may not be guaranteed that all the build materials meet BMW's specs. How do you "really" know this plugs are not knock offs. There's plenty of China made items with brand names. Look at all those D1S bulbs out there for an example.

I'm just saying be weary and be smart about where one purchases their equipment -that's all.

Man, BMW plugs are just Bosch plugs. They dont have unicorn hair in them.

YOU WONT HAVE ANY ISSUES with other plugs. Seriously.

Man, thats robbery for an item like a sparkplug. Autoparts store, or in some cases they are cheaper on ebay FOR THE SAME PLUG.

The plug on the left was out of my N52 after 60k. The tip of the electrode was rounded. Its sharp edges you want for the best spark. I have been using Denso and NGK in not only my E90, but also E46, and the MINI (which also 'required' BMW plugs, which was B.S. it runs great at 17psi of boost and NGK plugs).

Spark plugs as we know them today are 20+ year old technology (Platinum/Paladium/Irridium, etc). Nothing new or special about any of them

+1. At $16/plug, my arse is sore just thinking about it.

Like everything BMW, that price is about 2x greater than legit, non-mobster pricing....
