I can't think of any buffer that will be less then $50 that will be good. I mean you can go get it at autozone and costco, but they don't do much of anything at all. You can use them to spread stuff around but they're useless for products that need to be worked against a finish.

Get the Porter Cable or what I am debating on, the Ultimate. The Porter Cable 7424 is a couple of dollar less. I mean you brought a nice car, you don't want to screw it up with a $50 dolar buffer or better yet throw in another $50 or so and get a pro to detail it for you.

For a beginner you should absolutely stick with a random orbital. This makes it virtually impossible to make a mistake.

Also, do you really want to go cheap on something that is spinning on your paint? I have the random from Griot's Garage. http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog....1004&SKU=10925

I use a Porter Cable 7424 and use Edge pads. I prefer them over LC pads.

I'm with normtrum - gotta use the Griot's Random Orbital. Do yourself a favor and buy their wax kit - their Best of Show Wax is great as well.

That pad is not used for buffing. It is a "resting" pad. I use the foam ones, just like I said in my post

I already own a Bosch Random Orbit sander. It has variable speed control.

Can I use this expensive tool that I already own if I get the proper foam pads? I want to get into doing a proper detailing on my cars. Any risk? IF so, why?

Thanks!

Maybe. Check with Bosch to see if there's a backing plate for polishing pads that fits your machine. Pads aren't polisher-specific; you'll just need a backing plate to stick them to. The PC 7424 is actually a "sander / polisher" and has discs for both applications.

I'm not sure what you mean by "risk"... If you mean using your Bosch, then it depends on if the appropriate accessories are available. If you mean polishing in general, there's already tons of discussion on that already. The short answer is "no".
