2900miles and need new brakes
As the title says i have about 2900 miles on my car and i need new brakes. Every time i hit the brakes they squeak so i am assuming that i need new pads. Obviously i have had my share of fun in an empty parking lot or two. I just wanted to know if i go into the service department, do you think they are going to give me shit for having to get new pads already since its a lease. Thanks!

I would think that even if you beat the hell out of the car, they should be fine for 2900 miles.
I would think they get replaced under warranty. |

^ agree, no way could you burn through a set of pads in that few miles without track lapping. Dunno about the OEM E90/E92 pads (only have ~1600 miles on mine) but with aftermarket performance pads they can begin to squeal once the chamferred corners are worn down to square-edges.

Unless of course you ride the brake while you drive around. That generally happens with AT drivers, and not MT drivers, and I see you have the AT. Do you happen to ride the brakes while you drive?

is not uncommon for a cars breaks to have a squeaky period, even when they are new. its happened to me and they were fine. get them checked just to be sure that they are safe but my bet is they are good.

Why would you be concerned about any of it. Take it to the dealership and let them get rid of the squeak. If they have to replace the pads then oh' well thats why you buy a BMW because of the SERVICE they give. Most likely they are just out of adjustment or somethng is wrong. If the pads are bad, then the new pre-0brake feature might be messed up..etc. BTW, "Riding the brakes" is exactly that. Many people ride with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake(Automatic). The upmost error and newbie mistake. It's easy to spot those poeple on the road because their brake lights are ALWAYS flickering on & off. I just bow my head and feel embarrassed for them. How they got their license is beyond me. -Garrett |

my car did the same thing... I drove it like I stole it for around 2k miles and one day the car said it needed 4 new brakes... I took it in and it was just the sensors that needed to be reset. They said it wasnt done properly when the car first arrived to the states etc.
My car was a lease too they didnt give me any trouble. |

Who cares if they make noise it's not a problem or a bad thing. Generally when things rub against each other they make noise.

There is no mention that the brake warning light was on. Just because they squeal doesn't mean they are worn out. Take the car in just to get rid of the noise.

How does replacing a sensor make the brakes stop squeaking? Does it make any sense to you? Comon, think about it!
I's funny how so many people mentioned about a bad sensor, even when the OP never mentioned anything about the brake warning light coming on. Go to an empty road and get up to about 60mph and slam on the brake until you get about 10mph. Do that about 4 times and your brake should stop squeaking. You don't need new brakes, you need to deglaze your brake pads. Quote:

Did the light go on? It could just be a faulty sensor. I am just past 6,500 miles and I drive the shit out of the car and am very hard on the brakes. Usually my rotors are so hot when I get out of the car they turn a nice shade of blue. So either you drive harder than me or you need a new sensor. They wont replace anything because of a squeal or noise you will get the "its a high performance car and uses high performance brakes its the nature of the beast"

Not really, If the light does not go on and if it can be proven they don't need to be replaced they won't.
What makes you think a dealer would fix brakes at less than 3k? Find me a dealer that will replace brakes before they are supposed to and if the brakes are still good.
